I still want to find Mindworm's house, but it has been most elusive.

Just cross your fingers that if you do find it, he's not still in it.

I love this issue too, firstly because it's one of Andru's best covers but also because the issue had so many wonderful variations that I managed to pick up during my collecting days:

Didn't know all those variations existed.

It was a great time for variations and quirks Reggie. A great time.

Yes, I think my focus was on the 30 and 35 cent variants, then really got into the ASM 184 All Detergent variant.  There were a few variations that appealed to me, like the different color hues of ASM 143, but not to level you took it my friend.  By the time the modern variants with the ten different covers per issue came around, I pulled the plug.  I was a completist who couldn't keep up, so I took my ball and went home.

Many of us did. They ruined it really didn't they, Marvel. 1959-1984 was the 'golden age' of comics for me. With one or two exceptions, pretty much everything cool about comics happened in that 25 year window.

Great recent posts as usual spider-variant  😷‼️

Thanks FoggyNelson.  I'm running out of real life comparisons.  There's a few left, but not a lot.

But hopefully there's always something to talk about.  I love hearing stories from back in the day, would love more of those in this thread.

The original art for Ross Andru's (Mike Esposito on inks) Month of November illustration for the Amazing Spider-Man Mighty Marvel Comics 1978 Calendar is up on Heritage Auctions.  Ross probably drew this in the Summer of 1977, for inclusion into the 1978 Calendar, which probably would have hit the stands in the fall of 1977.  I remember picking up my copy at the PX in Fort Benning, GA at the age of 11, although I can't remember the month.  For comparison, I pulled up ASM 131 to see how much Ross deviated from his original work.  ASM 131 had a cover date of April 1974 and was on the stands in Jan 1974.  So, 3.5 years between the two.

For the most part, Ross kept it the same.  The preacher is the same, Dr. Ock has the same attire with the exception of his glasses, and if you look at ASM 130 and 131 you see the building has a brick facade.   Also notice the thug of diminutive stature, Ross puts him in both illustrations.

But Ross does deviate some.  Aunt May's gown for example in the calendar picture no longer covers her neck.  The rest of the goons are changed up somewhat.

You’ve done a stellar job of finding so many of the current locations from the Spider-Man comics 👍👍I know they will eventually all be found but this still a good thread👍👍😷

There are two spectacular Amazing Spider-Man covers up for auction on Comic Connect, or that will be up for auction.

The first is for ASM 162.  I always wondered exactly who drew this cover.  The description reads "Ross Andru pencils/John Romita inks", which to me makes sense.  I see a lot of John Romita on the faces in the Tram, but the Queensboro Bridge has the detail I would expect from Ross.  Spider-Man looks more like John's work than Ross's though.  Anyway, great cover.

The second is the cover to ASM 129 by Gil Kane and John Romita.  There is a full thread over in the Original Art section on these boards for those that want to read about it.  This is the only scan available.   I guess I am more enamored by the ASM 162 cover than the ASM 129 for some odd reason.

I always thought that Romita's inks over pretty much anyone else's art made the art look like Romita's. Especially those that drew in a similar life-like Romitary way.

Andru's Spidey eyes were unique though and an instant give away - this one is pure Romita.

I always thought it was fun when Spidey fashioned something out of his webbing to help in his crime fighting endeavors.

Here, he water skis behind the Rocket Racer along FDR drive.  Ross does a really good job flowing this story ending along the real life places in this area.  I'll connect it all together if I ever get more time.
