zhamlau
This is why i haven't been in 20+ years...the cost. I figured by the time i walked in the door, im down 2200 before i buy one thing, and that's me going peasant class on everything. In the real world, 2200 is a lot of coin. I spend almost 750 going to NJ art show each year and even making money it bothers me lol. Kohei

NelsonAI
I agree, the dealers always win. That's why they continue to set up every year. The new owners of the DD covers, ( Miller and Colan), both appear to be happy with their acquisitions so I would say congratulations to them as well !!! I have not attended SDCC in awhile since getting a good hotel room has become too bothersome for me. However, I always say that every fan / collector should attend SDCC at least once in their lifetime. SDCC is truly, the greatest comic convention in the world. If you ever have the opportunity, I say save up for it and go. Just make sure you plan about a year ahead. Like right now if you want to attend 2019. Cheers! N. Popular Post Brian Peck
SDCC was alot of fun this year. The turnout for the dinner was excellent, some new and some old faces. I did very well this year at SDCC. Before the show I had setup two deals, one comic art and the other was not. The 2nd I won't post about yet until the art is in hand next week (had someone drive it from SDCC). Zaddick was breaking up the first Ghita story and I got my two all time favorite pages from the story, he had alot of Thorne art for sale. The show had a whole spectrum of art from low to high end. Gene mention Mitch who I thought had the biggest percentage of new art, most other dealers has much less new art compared to what they showed. Then there was Steve Wyatt at Big WOW Art who was selling art on behalf of two people who had recently died. Much of it was strip and personal commissions and con drawings. I got two Reed Waller Omaha pieces done in the early 90s plus a Kelly Freas inked woman. Very detailed design. Someone who sells art for Sanjulian had a dozen pencils pieces and were selling them cheap to raise money for Sanjulian. Tom Raney finsihed my Catwman iPod (from SFCC) and Linsner did a new design of Vampurella which was setup before the show. I did attend the LA Ultimate Show. It had a number of OA dealers plus comic book dealers with OA art. Being able to look thru so many dealers the sunder before in LA ment I didn't have to rush around as much to dealers on Preview Night. Preview Night was much more relaxed for me. I bought a nice Hanna and Jack pencil piece from Mark Schultz. I finally found a nice Captain Klutz by Don Martin. Six of the pieces I picked up were under under $400, just the Schultz and each Ghita were more. I did get one more piece at SDCC which fills a major whole in my collection but will refrain from posting about it till I pay it off. I will disagree with Gene, I think Mitch was the clear winner of the con. He bought the biggest selection of new art on on his site before the show. He also generated the most buzz with the Mr. Miracle cover #6 sale. I still feel there are good deals and some great lower end (under $1K) art out there. Popular Post comicfanboy007
SDCC haul. To say it was a great year doesn’t even begin to cover it. Getting even one of these pieces would have made my Con to have all of them is... miraculous. A true grail. Nite-Owl. Golden Age cover commission. By Dave Gibbons. To describe this piece as infinitely special doesn’t even begin to cover it. With Watchmen Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore created a story that redefined the medium. My favorite sections were about Hollis Mason the Golden Age Nite-Owl. I poured over them constantly. My comic Mysteryman exists because I wanted more adventures with the character. So to have a new piece of Watchmen artwork by the original artist is just amazing. I love that Dave made it a cover to a comic book. This feels like this should be in Hollis’ apartment, hanging on the wall. It’s a little meta and it makes me love it all the more. I am so grateful that I got to thank Dave for this piece in person over the weekend. The Dark Knight Returns 10th Anniversary slipcase Cover Prelim by Frank Miller. I never thought I would own a piece of DKR and even though this is merely a prelim this is more than enough. To see Frank’s pencils and process is indescribable. I found this at Graphic Collectibles and Mitch was great to work with. God Country. This commission is so special it’s hard to eloquently put into worlds why. The comic it’s based on, God Country is a masterpiece that hit me like bolt of pure Kirby Krackle. It was a beautiful story that left me speechless and in tears and was the story I needed right here, right now as I continue to miss and grieve my Dad. This year at I knew artist Geoff Shaw was attending SDCC and possibly sketching. Through fortunate circumstances and a little luck I got onto Geoff’s list. We discussed a piece that is a slight tweak on a beautiful moment for the book. I won’t lie when it was revealed to me I almost started to cry as it moved me so deeply. A treasured piece of my collection and a wonderful surprise. I am so grateful to have this moment from this wonderful story that affected me on so many levels. I also had the good fortune to thank Donny Cates in person for all his hard work in creating the comic. Thank you to Felix Comic Art for helping me acquire such a beautiful piece and to Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw for creating something so special. Please check out God Country I promise you won’t regret it. This was a commission I have wanted for years. Lee Bermejo draws one of the best renditions of Batman in modern history, the way he renders the Batsuit in particular is truly one of my favorites. I have always wanted to see his take on Batman Unmasked and finally I have and it is amazing. The piece needs to be seen in person to be believed the inks are so rich. It’s a masterpiece. Thank you to Lee for doing such a wonderful job. The incredible Nick Derington blew my mind with this Mister Miracle. I loved talking to him about comics and Batman 89 while he sketched this for free. Mister Miracle Unmasked by Mitch Gerads!!!! A free quickie I got at the DC Booth for free. I think Mitch liked that I asked for him Unmasked and with the Dad Beard so even though his line was super long he spent a few extra minutes on it, which I greatly appreciated. I also got congratulate him on his Eisner win from the night before. Mister Miracle Unmasked by Daniel Warren Johnson. A commission with enough power and energy to make Jack Kirby oh so proud. Daniel delivers a home run every time. This was a nice Rick Grimes piece by Charlie Adlard. Old Man Rick has been my favorite era of The Walking Dead so this was a very welcome piece to my collection. Charlie Adlard was not at SDCC but I was able to get this through Splash Page Art. Black Lightning commission by the amazing Sanford Greene. Sanford completely knocked this out of the park. So this was a commission that has been bouncing around my head for a while now and I knew there was only one artist who could make it work and boy was I right. I have wanted to see Idris Elba cast as Batman for while now as he is an incredible actor with the intensity and presence to play an amazing Dark Knight. I simply asked Ramon if he would give him a costume that would be his modern interpretation of the 1989 costume. He exceeded my expectations and delivered a piece that makes me want this vision to become a reality. Thanks again to Ramon for making this work so well. Icon by Ken Lashley. I am super excited for the Milestone relaunch and I loved Ken Redesign so I was thrilled to get this piece by him. Flash issue 33 Page 16. Purchased from inker Norm Rapmund. Penciled by Brett Booth. This gorgeous page features the Future Flash. I love the design of the character. The story of a broken Barry Allen who will go to any ends to fix his timeline was just so good. The Rocketeer by Darwyn Cooke. I picked up this Prelim at Albert Moy’s booth. Thrilled to have a piece by Darwyn. igotnogame
Wasn't able to personally attend this year due to some unexpected things coming up at the zero hour, but was able to get this arranged, picked up, and brought home. Hope to be back out there next year, and also be able to get Despair to complete my set of Endless. So, I'd still consider it a win, but I still miss hanging out and chatting with other collectors.. Brett Booth is one nice guy, who interacts with his fans daily on twitter, and IMO is undervalued and under appreciated. Why he isn't a star and working on a book is a shame. His Backlash stuff is off the chain too. His recent run on Titans was as good as anything that DC put out the last couple of years. He definitely has the talent, so maybe he's not seeking the limelight? Madman1138
This year for SDCC I tried something different and went after sketch commissions more so than published art because I am usually the other way around. But I am a huge fan and collector of '90s WIldstorm and last year I missed the Wildstorm 25th Anniversary reunion because I couldn't make it to the show. So I made up for it this year with a theme of getting a Zealot (from Jim Lee's WIldcats) sketch from as many of the Wildstorm artists at the show as I could. I ran around the con like crazy, and still have some that will have to be mailed to me later. But I'm proud to say I got quite a few of them, along with some other artists with fantastic styles that I always wanted to see the interpretation they would give the character and I was not disappointed! Sketches by Arthur Adams, Adam Hughes, Dave Dorman, Bruce Timm, Humberto Ramos, Scott Williams, Stuart Sayger, Dean Yeagle, Richard Friend, Joe Linsner, Ryan Benjamin, Ryan Odagawa, Jim Balent, Katie Cook, and manny others. Here is a link to the gallery I set up on my CAF just for the show's acquisitions, before I sort everything later into their proper galleries later. Each piece has a story in the description so I'll spare the details here, but please take a look if interested. http://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=168444 Thanks for looking! gabadilla, F For Fake, Catwoman_Fan and 1 other

alxjhnsn
If an at home SDCC counts, this was delivered to my office while the show was going on. ---- Picked up a little something today that I've been waiting for (more or less patiently) for five years. The Shadow and Margo Lane as the perk for my backing of the Kickstarter for "Starstruck: Old Proldiers Never Die." The KS was funded in May of 2013, but the book required a lot more work than expected, took longer as a consequence, and cost more. As tough as Elaine and Michael found the row to hoe, I felt that we were informed of the progress on a regular enough basis and the resulting book is gorgeous and a fun read. Once the book was done, Micheal could start on the commission perks. Logically, he did the simpler and Starstuck centered ones first. Mine was neither of these. I was glad to hear from him that he enjoyed doing it and showing it to visitors. I love what he produced for me. Click the link to see the progress of the commission and larger images.
