For sure, there was some oddness to the Baker poll too but I have the same feeling with this one that I did that one. This poll represents the feelings of those who are likely to frequent these boards and vote on this poll. The ultimate popularity poll would be the listing of FMV for all these books in grade in relation to scarcity (I admit this is a kind of impossible thing to measure objectively, that is to tease out how much of a book’s value comes from its scarcity vs desirability). At any rate the long winded point I’m trying to make is I think this poll doesn’t reflect FMV for these books at all (could be mistaken as I only track a few Cole books), and that just goes to show that the population of these boards is a fraction of the collecting community at large. Some in the top ten were voted in by less than a third of the respondents. Truly this is a testament to the Man and his body of work. How do you pick just ten?!?
