Thanks, Peter. I'm actually amazed at the overall value placed on Schomburg's covers these days. I suppose it shouldn't be too surprising given the quality of work Alex typically tuned out, but the quantity of work ...with the exception of interior art... rivals S&K's output.  With art appreciation (both meanings) there's always a concern about there being too much of a good thing.

After the 40's Alex moved on to what is assumed more lucrative work in SF pulps and digests, book covers and interior plates, where his earlier "Xela" experimentation with airbrush on late 40's Standard/Better comics covers paid real dividends.  I've noticed some of his 50's SF work goes for a higher premium these days too.

After he moved out West his work with comics publishers dried up.  Also, he probably didn't do all he could to court new clients -- and it may have been hard to do even if he wanted to.

I ran some queries. The bad news is that the footprint we on GoCollect have for GA books with a match to the CGC census is pretty low, but growing daily. And, of course, I don't have a database of Overstreet values, so I used the following criteria relating to past sales...

2.0 >= $200
4.0 >= $400
6.0 >= $600
8.0 >= $1500
9.0 >= $2500

Below is the list I came up with where total population (not just Universal) was 10 copies or less that had been sold in in the grades/prices outlined above. I'd imagine this is substantially less than the applicable population, but should provide some fun...

Pretty sure there are a few more that meet that criteria but I think that some of the books have census numbers that will expand as big prices have occurred only recently.
