Big is a relative term. You were the big bidder this round.  The pre- peanuts strip with the boy and his dog went fairly high ( but I will admit I have no comparison info)

There have been other ones sold on Heritage (at least one) and they seem to go pretty high although that was the highest I believe.

OMG, am I now a BSD and will I be invited to the Cabal meetings hm

No, the Cabal waves their private parts in the general direction of comic strip art.

I think the prices were very strong compared to literally any time except for the crazy spike into six figures for Peanuts (can't remember whether it was last year or earlier).

There were a few auctions where prices were really crazy and then there was the usual iconic pieces that went for crazy money like the Christmas one.

@Panelfan1 answered better than I could do: the idea is not to sell all pages at $25k but to make high prices look like bargains. And I'm not even sure that Batman published pages will be available for sale: Marini posted a video on Facebook a few days ago (can't find it :-/ ), showing artworks "he was selecting for the coming sale" and it was only illustrations / commissions-like drawings. He also often publish on Facebook about drawings he does quickly in 10mn while drinking his morning coffee and sells 800-1000€. So it might be easier to offer such unpublished commissions at 1-2k€ (or more) when a published panel page sold $25k...

Sorry to any Marino fans, but so many of the panels and figures look stilted, posed, contrived... I’ve looked it over and it just doesn’t connect with me as good work in today’s age.

And that’s not even looking at the prices.

I can think of so many new and working artists whose comic art is stylish, but also organic, dynamic as hell, with figures and facial features that are emotive and compelling. Backgrounds that are characters in and of themselves, etc.

Add on the asking prices, and I say truly enjoy it if it’s for you. It ain’t my thing.

Sorry to any Marino fans,

Why are you sorry? Unless you mean Dan Marino, whom I am a big fan of! This Marini guy isn't my cup of tea either.
