Grading A New release with wavy top
1 1

5 posts in this topic

Hello,

Lately, I've been picking up a couple copies of my favorite releases and covers at my LCS. I've been able to find perfect spines and mint corners with the exception of the inside top part looking wavy, Even laying down the cover looks mint but the inside top is wavy. Have you seen this and how bad will this affect a potential high 9's grading at CGC is the cover is mint?

Thank you,

A lot of new comics are printed a little wavy. Some look like washboards.

Like anything else, it is a matter of degree.  And CGC tends to be forgiving of printing defects. Pick the most flat copy you can find. If it is otherwise perfect, you have a good chance at 9.8.

As to why, I believe it is lightweight paper with a lot of ink.  Everything is full bleed, edge to edge now with gloss paper interiors as well as covers. Too much ink, to thin paper. It dries wavy.
