Please someone help me in NOT buying ROM #1 !!

I see it there on the wall, it's calling my name as a sure fire way to make some bread in, oh, 20 years or so when I cash out . Like the guy that wants to sell you an oil well that "can't lose." I just get that feeling with ROM #1; You can't lose!

Now I never read ROM so it's not something I much care about.  Some say the story line is pretty ok, the Dire Wriths are a super cool villains.  I believe 'em. Just not my thing.

There's gonna be a movie, probably several dozen in 20 years times. Reboot after reboot after reimagining or whatever non-word the (un)creative types in Hollywood use . A whole cinematic universe of Hasbro toys or Meco or whatever the heck the company that made it was. Parker Brothers? There's the nostalgia from the kids with that grew up with it that in 20 years will want to buy their youth back. So, you know, I think there's something there.

Of course I collect what I like and I'm perfectly aware there's more to this hobby than money, so no need for that lecture. Please?  Pretty Please?

However I'm also a human living in a world of buying and selling and money and it just seems like a sure fire 20 year investment. Hell it's only 40$ or so decent shape.

But I just can't seem to pull the trigger. Like She Hulk #1. Man we threw that stuff across the room back in the day it was so bad and now look at it.

Anybody else know the feeling or have had it with what I'm going through with this ROM #1

Rom has terrible interior art, is a lousy story, and would not make a good movie.  Easy to avoid buying Rom 1.  You want a Rom issue?  Buy one with a Golden cover so you at least get one good illustration.

I guess the question was purely about making some cash with this book. I know ROM sucks which is why I never bothered with it back in the day. I think most if not all of the superhero movies are insufferable so ROM being a "good" movie is neither here nor there as it'll make millions and there will be about 20 of 'em in the next 15 years. I mean quality doesn't mean much these days, cinematically speaking.  Just got this nagging feeling I can make some easy $$ with this one if I act now and I'm wondering why I have that feeling? Perhaps we need a psychotherapy thread around here.

That's how I felt/feel about Dazzler 1.

Oh man I got burned hard with that one back in the day. I bought 50. I see them on walls at cons today with a 20$ price tag. I asked a seller about his 20$ price tag at the last con in LA and he was surprised at his asking price, too. It was kinda a weird conversation.

Please people we need a therapy thread.

It will be hard to get a straight answer from anyone over forty who remembers dozens of quarter box copies in every comics shop, flea market and second book store in the 80s and 90s. I have owned 20-30 copies over the years, none of them cost over a dollar.

20 - 30 copies? Did/do you keep them or flip 'em? See you got the ROM #1 fever, too!!! :flipbait:

I sold most of them raw, got two signed by Frank Miller, and have blue label slabbed 5 or 6 of them.  There may be 3 or 4 left, but they are beaters (comparatively) in the VF range.

I still see them on eBay for less than the cost of a current issue.

Yea, I looked up sold listing and they've sold for $1.00 upwards of $6.85 to $19.00 People are asking several hundred for a CGC 9.8. (9.8!!!!! PRESSED TO A PAN CAKE!!!!!)Holy how someone understands this hobby as far as making money, you dealers deserve my money.

Hey in one ebay listing it says a DAZZLER MOVIE HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED!!!!!

BTW, this is what I think every superhero movie looks/feels like. Even the "Critically Acclaimed" ones that make billions.

Not my bees-wax, however, curious if you slabbed them and if so why? You gotta be thinking like me: There's some cash here to be had!!

I think it’s more bulletproof investment than AF15!  Something like percentage wise you’d make less $ than AF15 but spend less or something like that I could explain better if I put more effort into this.

Anybody know if that TacVisor thing works as good as it does on the infomercial?

Just do it! The $20-$40 isn't worth the brain space it's taking. If you're wrong, console yourself with every other way you've ever blown a couple twenties in your life.

Its a sure-fire mental health investment when a book gets in your head this way and it's a relatively low price point.

Space in my brain goes for pretty cheap. Hence the thoughts about the TechVisor.

I'd have to buy ROM #1 slabbed 9.8 for WAY more than it's worth for this all to work. I do things the hard way and can't help it.  Perhaps I could get a dealer to do some theater or role playing with me buying their wall copy at a con just to put my mind at ease?

If it HAS to be a 9.8, space in your brain is not cheap enough for my gimmick to work! Yikes! I'm stumped.

Oh yeah it was for the bread.  Anything over 9.4 got CGC'd.
