It worked better when I tried it on the back of the slab. But...

...the rings came back after a few moments.

Great idea to at least try it ‼️‼️‼️

How did this get past QC!?  No way I can sell it in this condition.  When a company sends this out to a customer its just insulting.

Horrible. This is what happens when a company lowers its standards.

While they foist awful slabs like this onto customers, it is disgraceful for CGC to claim "CGC’s state-of-the-art holder combines superior optics and the most advanced archival materials, making it ideal for visual display and preservation."  https://www.cgccomics.com/comic-grading/holder/

I wonder what would happen if CGC got turned into the trade commission for false advertising?

Just got this back today after sending in for a re-holder. My old case cracked after dropping it and I actually re-joined in order to send this is. This is my first new case and I have to say, I miss the old cases. Never had this happen to any of my cases after many past submissions. Anyway I was wondering what the backboard method is that people keep mentioning on this board and if it works on these new cases and also if CGC will reimburse shipping for customers sending these back for a new case. Definitely worried about sending in my bigger keys now after this experience. Too bad. :frown:

Just got my reholder submission back for newton rings. While not as bad as before they’re still there. Looks like Rick peed his pants. Must be more scared than he let on.

In all seriousness though, this is unacceptable and will prevent me from submitting any more books until they figure it out. I cant imagine sending out my other keys to have them come back with even the smallest newton ring. I was excited to get some really big investment books graded for display, but now ill hold off. Completely unprofessional and disappointing... SMH

I'd read somewhere that this problem was being resolved. Some people claimed CGC had tweaked their slabbing process in an effort to eliminate this issue, which IS clearly an issue, whether they wish to acknowledge it or not. Imagine having replacement windows put in your home with this sort of "oil spill" look on them. Now imagine this happened to hundreds, even thousands, of loyal customers. Can you imagine the company responding with the equivalent of: "Nope, no problem here. It's all a normal part of the process. I mean, look, you can still see through the windows, can't ya?"

Anyway, I'm one of those loyal customers, and I recently received another Newton Ring Special, which was slabbed in May, 2019. I'd send it in for a re-slab, but what's the point? It'll likely come back with the same issue, and in the meantime I have to wait months and worry if my book will suffer some sort of damage in transit.

I'll still buy graded books, but I refuse to spend my money on anymore submissions. I still love CGC, I just wish they'd get it together and not be deaf to the cries of those who have supported them all along.

Just need a very light dusting of Diatomaceous earth between the layers of plastic to prevent the newton rings.

Whether or not you want or trust a bunch of fine particle dust in your slab... well I doubt many people will. I also have no idea what kind of affect this could have on the comic in the long term.

Here is a video detailing how it is used on lcd screens to prevent newton rings. Seems common for things like cell phone screen protectors too to prevent rings.

Is this an ideal solution? Nope!

I received my reholder for NRs last week but just now had time to look it over.

Here's the messed up part.. out of the 10 books they redid, only 2 are any better. Those two are in Thicker holders, putting less pressure on the book. They also have the old fashioned "cradles" holding the book on the side and bottom.

They sent me my 2 copies of paper girls #1 in 2 separate thicknesses of holders - almost to say they can fix it but choose not to.

This is unacceptable and I can no longer recommend CGC to anyone until this is fixed. The "optically clear" advertising is now blatantly false.

See photos. The right one is the thicker holder.

That's troubling. QC is in need of major overhaul/retraining IMO. Management needs to handle this.

Here's a new book I just acquired which was recently slabbed by the seller.  Maybe we should organize a newton ring month and no one send any books to them the whole month.  Might get their attention.

I recently called to ask what they are doing to address the problem, and received an email response.  Along with a cut and paste of the "there are acceptable levels of rings on all our holders, and library of congress says theyre fine" boilerplate , they assured me it is not a defect with their product (duh, the product isnt doing whats its supposed to, which is properly display art, so yes its defective), that its just a visual effect.  Also, they are working on a modification of their holder.  No details.  👍🤷‍♂️🤔
