IMO, this is not the fault of the submitter, it's the fault of CGC. Being a big fan of pedigrees, I believe the integrity of pedigrees need to be maintained. Years ago, you needed more than just an 'I was told by someone that this is a pedigree' for CGC to grant it. Obviously, they are too lenient. A quick check of their own database would have shown another copy existed. This example should be forwarded to CGC, maybe they can recall the book. This should not be swept under the table with a Meh attitude.

I agree that they're too lenient--or too inconsistent--but it's been that way for a while.

Some people may remember that the Cosmic Aeroplane Fantastic 8 (Youthful) became the Mile High Fantastic 8 when it was CGC'd.

CGC is reputable. Pressing is common knowledge. GPA presents the data that they are allowed to.

I'm not sure how we got sidetracked from a critique of the process to calling into question CGC's reputation.  Yeah, I know, the fish analogy stinks and you're not about to let me off the hook for it.   :flamed:

Pressing is commonly accepted and has been for a very long time, but it isn't common knowledge on a book to book basis. Crack/press grade manipulation is one of the reasons the CGC Census is more like a dice roll than a data base.  Other than that, I have no pressing issues.

Last time I checked, GPA provided incomplete sales data favoring one grading service.  I'm open to being persuaded how this benefits the hobby.

glad to have this quirky Giordano, I know the book is out there but comes along so rarely, at least in my circles

Warn't me.  I wasn't able to bid live on any of them.  Great pickup.  Those 1950s Charltons are really starting to grow on me.

Working on completing one of the two runs I'm still pursuing.  Pressed up from a 9.0 and a little rough on the corners but it will look good with the rest of the run.

Great book!  Funny that the pedigree isn't given the way it usually is:  Edgar Church (Mile High) hm

I will second that, I would take any GPA with a grain of salt....

There's ointment for that, you know.

Thank gawd!  I had another opinion that recommended surgery. :whatthe:

That rascal's got really good-sized hands! :)

And I am sure we all know what that means.  (tsk)

As I am sure she also must obviously know from how close and tight she is holding onto him.  lol

Auction could hit a record..10.75M...I agree with you Cat on this one, its a strange world out there, I  would stick with mainstream..Cap1, 2, 3 etc over 10X guide mille the model...

Won a book I wanted for a fair price.  I was an underbidder on one of the Timelys and several degrees of underbid on a piece of art (much to my surprise).

No one paid much attention to my groan-worthy pun about (Matt's) mainstream press and fake news, but in fairness we have some pretty serious folks rehashing the HA results in this thread. I've seen less sweat on nitroglycerine haulers in William Friedkin's movie The Sorcerer.

Actually I did read what you said about pressing and decided you must not be a fan of it.  I was thinking to myself that’s probably an unpopular position in this forum, but its a position I agree with

I don't know if the position is unpopular as much as the issue has been beaten to death in multiple threads over the years.  For better or worse, that ship has sailed, circled the globe multiple times, been renovated, and is now docked in New Orleans where it's operated as a casino.

...Wonder if Hakes affected HA yesterday a little (if at all) hm

You know, I completely forgot about Hakes.  I looked through the catalog and didn't see any comics that set my pulses racing.  Usually, though, I throw in at least some token bids on comics or the other junk they list.  First time in ages that I didn't.

Decidedly mixed feelings about it.  I don't have a hard and fast posture against pressing, but I'm not a big fan.  I dislike the fact that cracking and pressing makes the census less trustworthy every time books are resubmitted without labels.  It also encourages collectors to take unnecessary risks with fragile books.
