I recently acquired this copy of Batman 155 first silver age appearance of the penguin. the pictures online made it look like there were smudges/dirt specifically in the area between the penguin and Robin. once I receive the book and held it in my hands I saw that those smudges were actually a form of ink shadowing, you can see it’s like Robins glove and hair I’m not sure what the technical term for this is called has anyone seen something like this before.

Those appear to be some stains, or minor soiling on the copy you have there. I did a quick check on line and did not see them on other copies of #155. Even with the soiling its a great book to have! Nice find!

Here is another picture, you can see that the S from the word psychic is above the T in Batman.

Printing is a dirty job, like being a car mechanic. 

Pressman has ink on his hands, picks up a copy, checks the quality and places it back on the skid with the rest of them, fast forward 50 years..."hey, what are all these smudges"?

I get what you’re saying Kevin76 but the markings are more of a shadowing than just a blob of ink, you can see the outline of the S  near the title where it says Batmans psychic twin and next to robins glove is almost identical in size and shape same thing with his hair.  You can also see the line of Batman’s cape and the line of the dragons wing.

Nothing can be done about it, go buy another copy instead.
