Congrats Roy!

It strikes that in declining to recognize it as a pedigree, CGC implicitly makes a referendum on how someone chose to collect. A 5000-book collection is substantive; if the guy was eclectic in his taste what's wrong with that? It's a reflection of the original owner, and there's no wrong way to collect. Too bad the view on this is narrow.

CGC has certain criteria - state of preservation, depth of runs, breadth of titles, etc.

Obviously if you have enough quality in one area that can make up for deficiencies in other areas.

For example, if the earliest keys were all higher grades that may have made up for lack of depth or breadth.

In this case, there just wasn't enough over all to satisfy them. For example, there were only 3 or 4 FF books, no ASM books, 3 or 4 JIM books, etc. Just a very eclectic collection.

And I guess runs of SA Disney and Pep books is not enough. lol

It's still a phenomenal find.

Ok, that's a little different, more detailed picture than the initial post. Still as you say a great find; congrats!

If someone stumbled upon boxes of 200 action comics #1 in mint, that had never gone out to distributors, would that qualify as a pedigree?

If so what about 100?  50?  10?

where's the cut off?
