When you look at the total purchase price on many books you will see there are people spending money, it's just that S/H is often eating up a lot of it. (How many people got combined shipping, I dunno, but I suspect it is fewer than you'd think). Frankly, these total prices are high for a comic shop or expensive table at a convention. Heck, even at Mile High a VG ASM 169 is "only" $9.75 without a codeword! Shipping sucks the money out of your pocket as a seller.

The exchange rate hasn't been fabulous lately either.

In the early 2000s it was bad too, but still sold a lot to Canadians. I remember some art supply store in Canada was offering 2 for $1...$1 American for every $2 worth (Canadian) they listed. Obviously when oil prices popped that changed. A flat rate PM envelope was like $6 or $7. what is it now?

+1. The pound/dollar rate sucks. Bought a lot of slabs 2007-08. These days, mainly mid grade raw. Don't even mention the shipping :frustrated:

Brexit can't be helping. London was too frigging expensive anyway. Now I could actually afford to eat at a restaurant.

Brexit has hit the exchange rate but London became prohibitively expensive after the dot.com boom and managed somehow to ride the storm of 2008 relatively unscathed.

I was there in 2006. It was rough and I am used to Manhattan prices. I ate a lot of fish and chips because that was usually priced reasonably, which I know, is really touristy, but I like fish and chips.

A big reversal for us, from a high exchange rate and much lower, more affordable prices back then to a perfect storm of a pitiful exchange rate combined with stratospheric speculation prices on keys.

Quite happy I’m just reading digital comics, for now.

A good choice.  Not touristy at all.

Hopefully you went for some nice cod rather than ‘rock salmon’.

That’s my bias, as a northerner.

I think it was cod. What is "rock salmon"?

Dogfish, shark.

Touristy in London would be jellied eels, or pie and mash.
