Well, today alone would have made my year. These were some, but not all, of today’s pickups, all of which should be on my best of the year. The Lily Renee Art is a full Senorita Rio story.

I love the no. 17 and the no. 33! I'm glad to see that most of the Church Planets still have nice pages; I've heard the horror story about Burrel Rowe storing some Church Fiction House books in a shed or attic and letting the pages get ruined. Maybe his stash didn't include the Planets.

I heard that story as well but I've seen a lot of Church Jumbo's, Fights, Wings, Jungles, Cowboy Romance and now Planets, so I think the effects were limited to a small selection of books or were exaggerated.

Truth is I really had a good year in Golden Age Awesomeness, I got a great deal on a Ghost 6, a Junior 15, a Phantom Lady 13, and some other amazing books. But, I keep coming back to this Planet Comics #2. High Grade 1940 book that is just beautiful! As with many of the books I got this year I feel like I was just super lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time (with my wallet open).

The purple label seems to make some books affordable – sometimes...

I got this Purple Label Of Discount for half what I was willing to pay (seemed like there were no serious bidders at the time) and probably 5% (or 1% - we will see) of what the Church copy will go for. Also, I have never seen what I presume to be “Professional” restoration. A-3: A for Excellent quality materials and 3 for moderate amount. I can see the spine seal but the rest I can't find or is just inside the book. It's funny, the edges trimmed probably bothers me the most – I really don't know why. Anyway, I find the restoration process to be quite the art form in and of itself. I just love looking at this book.

So this is my Book of 2018!

I would definitely say you had a good year Grover! The colors on your Planet 2 are just phenomenal. I don’t think I’ve seen a copy with brighter colors.  (I also love the Planet 5 you added this year)

Wow, just some amazing pickups here. You guys rock! Me, I'm winding down a little in my comic buying this year. I was able to complete several of my PCH runs as well as upgrading a lot of books I love. I have long ago realized that there are a LOT of books I will never have and have made peace with it. Since I can't even compete here, I thought I'd post my favorite purchase of the year. As you know, I'm into other things besides comics. So I was overjoyed to be able to pick up this 1957 Gold Top Gibson Les Paul Guitar. I've wanted one for as long as I can remember. Was able to get a good deal on it from a friend. I think this makes 6 vintage electric guitars I have now. I still want a late '50's Gretsch Country Gentlemen and my collection with be complete. Sorry to this thread but those of you who play might appreciate this...

If that was manufactured by Fiction House I wonder what colors you could get?

Those are the wrong size humbuckers for a 57 Les Paul.  Was it one with p90s that was converted to mini humbuckers?

Talk about amazing pick-ups, those are Humbuckers aren't they?

As non-GA acquisitions go, that's pretty darned excellent; kudos on the Les Paul! :applause:

I had a two margarita special dining at Mariano's today, so if this response appears turned up to 11 by Spinal Tap standards that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! This is Cat in raucous and roll-us mode...

I almost posted an old photo Rox took while we were hangin' out with Joe Bonamassa after a gig in north Texas about ten years ago, but the margarita buzz started to wear off.  lol

Yep. Had some minor work done to it. Two newer repro tuning pegs and one knob. A little bridge work and back refinished. A few other minor things.  I guess it would come "back purple" label. All stuff I could easily live with. Otherwise, I probably couldn't afford it...

If you play, none of that matters.
