CGC Census is the closest thing to that and it only shows submissions to CGC, some books aren’t graded, some books are graded by other companies, some books are submitted multiple times... so it’s more of a very rough idea, best suited to comparing submissions with other similarly valuable books for relative scarcity.

can anyone recommend a site or sites that shows how many known copies of a certain book exist?

I'm new and dont know a lot of the In's and Out's...

curious just to see how many known copies exist of AF #15 or Incredible Hulk #1 there are and others

thanks

Best you can do is estimate how rare a book is by checking the census and by checking long term auction archives like heritage auctions.  Adding Heritage data helps because that also captures raw copies and copies graded by other companies.  Strangely enough there's quite a few copies of key books that have sold on Heritage ungraded.

For example here's Heritage archives for Mask Comics #1.  Looks like they've sold 15 copies since they began auctioning comics.

And here's an example of Amazing Fantasy 15.  Heritage has sold 423 copies since they began auctioning comics.

There's no way to tell how many copies of either book exist but based on Heritage auction results there's about 25 times more AF15 than Mask Comics #1.  AF15 is not rare and Mask Comics is quite rare but not ultra rare

I think Alf #15 is fairly common, but just guessing.

Do the other losers even have a census?

I don't think print runs are disclosed by manufacturers, so asking for a total of "what's out there" is too tall a task.

Actually, publishers had to annually state how many issues of each title per month they on average printed, gave away, got returned (cover title block torn off), and the remaining difference was estimated as the number of books sold at stores.  So that number would give you an upper ceiling for which ever title or singular issue one might be interested in.
