I again go back to my rolex example. If a rolex model is advertised as genuine yet has a leather strap rather than a steel band, a watch connoisseur might easily recognize that as a fake. That doesn't mean it's your fault if you buy it and don't realize that. The fault on this ASM auction is 100% on the seller if it was clearly stated as "mint" and he didn't say something like "great condition" or "looks like it is mint."

Real vs fake

Mint vs not mint

The first is objective (yes I know that there can be differing opinions on whether something is real or fake, but your example is straightforward), the second is subjective (though less subjective with more training/experience)

A photo is objective (it IS what it shows in the photo)

So in a listing why would someone value the subjective over the objective?

One reason is that they put more value in the sellers opinion than their own (this is a bad move), and the other is they couldnt be bothered to look at the picture closely (or were buying off their phone or some other excuse).

End of the day base your decisions on objective info, not subjective.

THIS IS THE 2ND SPIDER-MAN #361 I PURCHASED FROM EBAY THE LOT OF 361 362 363 for 199 I think I got ripped off the moment I opened the comic its all torn up at the bottom how much does this effect grading. Why has this happened? How am I supposed to know the inside of the comic is torn up if usually people never open the book and post inside pictures.

I just recieved a copy of spider-man #361 and the first 5 pages at the bottom are all cut up what the heck is this? Is this normal the seller said the book is NM NM-. How do these tears happen on 1st 5 pages only and also how much does CGC count against this? Should I return this to the seller ? Or is this normal for this type of tears at the bottom and this is a key issue. Seller said this is 9.4 NM or better.

Im pretty sure this has already been addressed in this thread when you asked the first time and few hundred pages back. It happened during production this was common.

Ive read this entire thread but stayed out watching but I think you really should heed the sage advice from the members of these boards. I think youd learn A lot more than what you think you know....i know these boards taught me a lot.

You get defensive and act like you know what your “doing” and you might have had a few “flips” but you might do better if you look around the boards and not say things like “ you wouldnt buy from people here” ( but you will ask for advice) and learn from mistakes made and that have been pionted out multiple times by multiple members.

Being here on the boards should be fun! And a good learning tool that you learn from if your new to collecting or advanced.

There are rules to follow here, you can usually find the rules in the top listed threads in each part of the CGC forums....

Unfortunately, yours is much, much worse. I count at least nine of these pulls that look like they are turning into tears from all the opening of the comic. Hint, you should not have flipped through these page by page to take pics. The far right tear looks exaggerated and bent back. IMO, because of the severity, it will not be ignored by CGC. CGC is lenient on bindery flaws but only if they are 'mild'. The more severe, the deductions start happening.
