comic book tears at bottom of white ridge is this normal? How much does this effect the grade? 0

I just recieved a copy of spider-man #361 and the first 5 pages at the bottom are all cut up what the heck is this? Is this normal the seller said the book is NM NM-. How do these tears happen on 1st 5 pages only and also how much does CGC count against this? Should I return this to the seller ? Or is this normal for this type of tears at the bottom and this is a key issue. Seller said this is 9.4 NM or better.

Binder Perfs - See "Perforations." 

Perforations - Small hole at the page margins which sometimes occur as part of the manufacturing process. "Not considered a defect. Perforations are sometimes used to tell if a comic is an unread copy. In such a copy tell-tale clicks are heard when the book is opened for the first time as the perforations separate.

Only subtle bindery or printing defects are allowed. No bindery tears are allowed, although on Golden Age books bindery tears of up to 1/8" have been noted.

It seems we have a contradiction...

I never payed attention to those when I was buying books new in the 80's/90's, if they were there it was just the way things were, thats how the comic came, no big deal.

I have never been a believer in manufacturing defects not counting towards the grade. If I can find an example of the book without the defect then the defect should affect the grade. Just an opinion that isn't shared by the majority.

I am enjoying seeing you grow with regards to your experiences in collecting comic books. These are all lessons many of us fellow collectors have learned.

The seller did not disclose the grabber rips. Then again, does a seller have too disclose that when the grading standards seem to not consider that a defect?

Next time you now know you should ask if the book from that era has the grabber holes or not if the seller does not include images or any description relevant. They are extremely common. I personally don't like them.
