Oldest Original Owner Collection 1 1

While my collection of 750+ comic books, purchased by me off the newsstand between the years of 1942 to 1954

doesn't qualify for a Pedigree, I would like to know if it is indeed the "Oldest Original Owner Collection" on the boards.

If anyone is aware of another Golden Age collection I would truly like to know.

Maybe a collection label notation like the likes of Cage, Blades and Berk is in order?

What I find fascinating about Marty is his recollection of the books available -- and his wide-ranging interests -- from crime and horror (when available) to superhero, "second tier" titles, funny animals, you name it!

Marty, I feel safe in saying you are the original owner extant who has truly kept his books the longest. For example, the great story of Lamont Larson would rival yours, except eventually he left his love of comics in the past, it was a valuable youthful memory for him, but only that -- he had moved on from comics and though pleasantly amazed/honored for his amazing collection late in his life, it wasn't something he'd actively kept up with for all his days.

Your record and accomplishment is safe -- congrats to you! Honestly though, to me the most valuable part of your collection are your personal recollections of how and where you got them. Thanks for that.

I love this issue and have a copy of it! Not original-owner like you though Marty. Any recollection of where you would have bought this one?

Thanks for asking!  The above comic is an ("N" copy) that I bought at my favorite newsroom located

on Bloomfield Avenue in Newark, NY.

Marty, I think you may be the real King of Comics as far as OO collections go!

I had a friend/mentor, Chuck McCleary, who had his OO books dating back to 1940. However, he sold just about everything years ago (the so-called More Fun Collection).

For those who knew Chuck, an early collecting pioneer with others like Rick Durrell, he did unfortunately pass away not that long ago.

I asked about that and was told it could be done but only with a large quantity...just can't afford that.

Started in 1942 with a copy of ALL-WINNERS #4 (CGC Grade 3.0 Cream to Off-White) continued until 1954 when I joined the NAVY.

Books were packed away until 1970 when I attended a Comic Book Show with my two boys.  Went home from the show and dug them

out.

Marty, do the next best thing, like R.Cat Conrad does -- a small, distinguished label placed onto the slab label area that defines it as your book/your collection.

Another neat thing to do, if you are so inclined, would be to record on a piece of paper kept with the book -- or a sticker on the back of the ones you've slabbed -- noting the time and place you acquired them.

Thank you for your interest and suggestions.  As for the time and place...time wise they were all purchased from the newsstand or store the

month they were on sale...a sticker on the bag or slab giving the location of purchase is a terrific idea which I will follow through with.
