Adverts in Old Comics

Afternoon :)

I was looking through some old comics this week, clearing the decks of all the books that make their way into your collection as extras in bulk ebay sales and the like. A few had some good interior adverts which invoked some nice feelings of nostalgia.

Here's a few - maybe others can post ones they have found / like

First up, did anyone ever buy one of these? I had the Spidey one and I have to say it was one of the most exciting things I can remember. The suction cup dart never stuck to anything of course, but it was the closest my eight year old self ever got to web-slinging :headbang:

Thwipp!

Not sure what this next one was all about, not being a DC boy back in the day. Their version of the Marvel Value Stamps?

Jack O'Lantern - Hero of Ireland. What!?

Here's a cool advert for Nick, back in the days when he was a white guy.

Tuesday Weld? Who dat?

Nice to see that Subby was as enthusiastically requested as Gulliver's Travels.

What?

This DD ad is from a TGK #69, dated May 1964 - only one month after Daredevil #1. It's probably happened, but had it been dated one month before, could that be classed as his first appearance? I can hear a number of the old timers groaning....

I posted this one elsewhere in a graveyard thread.

Can anyone guess what book it was heralding?

And who's the guy with the pink head?

Just like Orion of the New Gods.

Which actually happened in the comic book. Red-haired, so on Earth it was assumed the name was O’Ryan.

doh!

That would be the Parasite. You know, the mentioned villain? And he's actually purple. (I'll let you make the joke)

This was one of my favorites - Kooba Cola, the drink that never was.... Vincent Fox put the advert in many of his titles in the 40s in the hopes that it would create enough buzz that a manufacturer would actually produce and he would just license the name to them.. Never happened...

Coolio. According to my old Spidey completist files, this one 'never appeared in a Marvel comic'.

Kooba the Coke Monster would've been a good one as it goes. He could've dealt drugs to the cool kids of California. Or something like that.

Love it.I was always a little weirded out as a kid when there would be adverts for another companies character in a book.Talking copper age here, video games and such, but also food product adverts with a rival companies character featured as a prize. And seemed so common in the bronze age for the tshirts, posters ect at the time to have both DC and Marvel.I wish I had some Charlton clothing.
