PGM Fantastic Four #4

Please grade my new grail.  Recently upgraded to this from a 1.5, hoping for a slightly higher grade.  Lots of sun damage and tape, but overall solid.  No missing pages and cover seems secure (thanks to the tape).  Will be sending to CGC down the road, so I’ll be sure to update this thread.  Thanks in advance!

I feel the only detriment to this book is the tape, the Marvel Chipping is a Bindery/Printing Defect and acceptable in the grade of...

IMO...

GD/VG 3.0

3.0 GOOD/VERY GOOD (GD/VG):  Back to Top
A used comic book showing some substantial wear. Cover shows significant wear, and may be loose or even detached at one staple. Cover reflectivity is very low. Can have a book-length crease and/or dimples. Corners may be blunted or even rounded. Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed. A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. Tape and other amateur repair may be present. Moderate spine roll likely. May have a spine split of anywhere from 1" to 1-1/2". Staples may be rusted or replaced. Minor to moderate staple tears and moderate stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present.

Nice Book BTW.  :cloud9:

Just curious. You got a great grade anyway, but IMHO if you’re selling a big key in lower grade, the $20 or so a press will cost is worth it for a potential 0.5 grade bump.

Situational, though... I don’t know that this one’s flaws could get you any higher.

I agree.  I had my first copy of this book pressed but it was in pretty bad shape, and received a 1.5.  Luckily, I got it for a good price and made enough money to purchase this book.  I didn't consider pressing for this one.  Overall it was already a pretty flat book, and its for the personal collection.  Those are my reasons, but I think you make a valid point.  And if (when) I do try to resell down the road I will probably be kicking myself for not pressing.

congrats on the grade

Books like this puzzle me-- I understand Marvel chipping to some extent but the ragged cover seemed less the result of a manufacturing defect and more about just being worn out. I thought chipping was less pronounced than what this book shows, especially towards the upper right corner. Maybe it didn't factor into lowering the overall grade but the graders notes (if any) would be interesting to see for this book.
