I bought a 3.5 type 50s book but notice one interior story page is torn about 2/3 through and held together with so e antique tape. Would a single page tear like this knock this grade down? I don't want to hassle with a return, but if the view is that this is now a 1.5 I might

Going by the grading standards I think you are OK at VG- 3.5.

GD/VG 3.0 states..."Tape and other amateur repair may be present. 

"Minor to moderate interior tears may be present."

VG 4.0 states..."Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies." 

"Minor to moderate interior tears may be present."
