Please Grade My Rai #0! 0

Hello everyone! Let me start by saying thank you for the help ahead of time. I decided to pull this out because of the price increase in the comic. I’m no good at grading, and wanted to see what you all would think about the grade I would get if I were to submit to CGC. I have added a bunch of pictures. I apologize ahead of time for the lighting, my scanner is no good, so this is what I am stuck with for now. I’ll try to get better ones if needed.

Can you please explain why you decided the grade you choose? So I can get a better idea of what to look for, and so I can learn! That would be very helpful.

Also, If you think it would score higher with a press or if there is anything else I could do to increase the grade. If you could predict a grade on this as well, that would be very helpful, if not, it’s not a big deal. 

 

Im really only looking to submit, if it will be a high grade, if not, I’ll put it back in the storage box.

Is that a large scratch at the bottom edge of back cover? If so 8.0 for me mainly because of it.

Otherwise I would be in the 9.2-9.4 range

Only real flaw that is apparent is the back cover BRH corner and the scuff near the bottom staple.

That is the bottom edge of the arcade machine that is pictured in the advertisement on the back cover. It definitely looks like a scratch, though!

That got me as well when I pulled it out. I didn’t remember seeing it, and actually panicked lol. I had to look twice just to make sure. 

 

Thank you all for the input. Do you all think a press, or anything else could bring it to the 9.6-9.8 point? Or is it too hard to predict that high of a grade? Sorry if the questions are dumb, I don’t mean for them to be. Just trying to learn from you all! Thanks again!

Also on the bottom left hand corner back side, it appears as if there is a sort of bend/mark there as well. It’s hard to tell in the picture, but if you zoom in you can slightly see it.

 its a "glossy" version! IIRC the inside pages sticks out more. Ive never seen one in person but good luck!

If that scratch is not part of the comic (just lighting or something else), then you got a nice 9.6. Perhaps even higher...

Came back at 9.6 “matte”. I think someone mentioned it was “glossy”. Is there any way to determine if it was mis-labeled?

I have the same comic and was unsure if I had the matte version or glossy one. Someone told me it's very obvious if you have the glossy version. I.e. It is very shiny. I think yours like mine is the matte version.

I contacted CGC for their grading guidelines on Matte Vs. Glossy, and here was their response:

”This answer is according to our graders.  The glossy version does have a shorter right edge than the pages inside. But some copies of the matte version are also like that. CGC recognizes copies as "glossy" when the surface of the cover is almost that of glass. It's almost like someone poured a clear resin over it. If there is still texture to the paper, we will notate it as the "matte" version.”

Hopefully this helps clarify for everyone. When I had posted this originally, I couldn’t get a straight answer from anyone, and the only answer I did get was that the cover on the glossy was shorter, this is why I thought mine was the glossy version. So this makes a lot more sense.
