Up for sale in the Comiclink auction that ends today is a classic Captain America vs. The Red Skull half splash page by Jack" The King" Kirby!    This was the last issue Kirby did before he left Marvel and would be a perfect addition to any Jack Kirby collection!

Kirby Capt vs. Red Skull Issue 112

Jack Kirby Half Splash battle scene from Captain America #112 (1969) featuring a flashback to Cap and Bucky in the early Golden Age battling their number one enemy, the Red Skull. The page features three large panels. First we see the Red Skull on a screen identifying one of Cap's exploits from 1941, "Case of the Giant Power Drill". Then we see a giant power drill terrorizing the city. In the final splash panel, Cap and Bucky encounter the Red Skull and work to save victims from the damage done to buildings by the drill. Inks are by George Tuska, best known for his long run as the penciler on Iron Man.

Captain America #112 took place in the middle of Jim Steranko's classic trilogy, which ran in #110, #111 and #113. Cap was thought to be dead at the end of #111. When Steranko was running late on his final chapter, Editor/Writer Stan Lee called on his #1 artist and co-creator of Captain America, Jack Kirby, to create a story to fill the gap. Working off the premise that Cap was thought dead, Iron Man mourns him by narrating a look back at some of Cap's memorable exploits. The screen shown in the opening panel of this page is Iron Man watching case summaries.

The issue featuring this page was the last Captain America issue Kirby drew during the Silver Age. He had co-created Cap with Joe Simon back in 1941 and worked on the first 10 issues of Captain America Comics before leaving to work for DC. Kirby and Stan Lee famously revived Captain America in Avengers #4 (1964) and Kirby then worked on many of Cap's solo stories in Tales of Suspense, which became Captain America starting with #100. Not long after completing this page, Kirby once again left Marvel for DC. He returned five years later, for his final run on Captain America starting with #193.
