Marvel's What If? comic book series has found new life in the form of an animated TV series for Disney's upcoming Disney+ streaming service.

 

The series will explore an alternate history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe fans know already and love, /Film reports. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will oversee the project, although none of the stories depicted in the show will be considered canonical to the MCU proper.

 

It's possible some MCU actors could lend their voices to their animated counterparts for the series, as well. Furthermore, the report suggests that, much like the comic book source material, the show will be an anthology-style series, with each episode telling a standalone story.

 

At this time, there is no release date for Marvel's What If? series.

Not sure why this idea has taken so long to do finally do, but I am definitely looking forward to this. Hopefully they adapt some classic "What If" comics as well (i.e. Jane Foster Thor, Spider-Girl, etc.).

This sounds like a great idea. Wonder if each episode will follow a different story line or if they will break it down in sever or possibly per season? Can't wait to hear more about this project.

I might add that this was one of my favourite comics growing up in the 80’s. It was the first run of books that I completed. I’ve sold off many books,  but What If Vol 1 remains!

I would love to see "what if invisible girl had died" issue as its one of my all time favorite one shot FF stories (Two in one Annual #7 as well).

I loved this series, both volumes, and am so happy they're doing this. I feel like they're more likely to stick to the ones that require the least amount of outside/obscure/specific comic knowledge--i.e., the ones most accessible to the largest audience--but so what, they'll hopefully still be fun to watch.

That's now basically in continuity as Agents of Atlas.  Great series.

I was thinking that with a few of these stories. Even Conan in modern times, which was such a fun story for that time.

Yup.  That was a good one.

Being completely freed from continuity, there was a tendency for many of the stories to have somewhat dark and negative conclusions.
