This is the last of the 5 barn, new overstock Atlas books I have.

I wish I had more to share, but this was all the dealer had left for romance. He said the guy had over 2000 books in the collection, but I guess this was awhile ago now.

Anyways...

My Own Romance #44 - 3.5 - $33

This one definitely had the worst of it in terms of the barn books. It's the one that looks like it was in a barn.

It's still very tight and glossy, with great color - and a fantastic cover it is.

However, it has a dust shadow on the fc right side that also includes faint foxing.

Additionally, some water hit the back cover. There are two stains on the back cover, and the top one in particular carries through to the interior pages in the form of a yellow splotch that gets smaller and fainter the closer to the front of the book you get.

Ironically, this might have had the best PQ otherwise.

Still, looks super nice - nicer than it is.

Here's the interior from about halfway through the book - note the yellow stain at the edges, near the top on both sides.

SOLD!

MATT BAKER!

As Baker covers head through the stratosphere, people are definitely looking for his interior work as a cheaper alternative. Well, they don't get much cheaper than this. Some great romance work from the legend in this issue, and the three books that follow!

My Own Romance #69 - 2.0 - $39

spine split at top

This features 2 stories by Matt Baker.

SOLD!!

The woman on this half splash is just absolute, pure Baker.

I'm afraid something just came up and I'll have to finish this in a couple hours. There are two Matt Baker books left - Lovers #81, and Lovers #85. And maybe a third, super cheap surprise Matt Baker issue as well if time permits. but those two Atlas ones will be up tonight, and I will respond to everyone when I get back. Thanks!

Okay, going to sneak in a couple more so that when I return I can hit the ground running with those Atlas Patsy Walkers.

First up, it's a nice presenting copy of a fairly hard to find title. Yes, Kathy the Teen-Age Tornado was still being published well into the Marvel Age. This issue is from June, 1963. I don't come across copies of Kathy very often!

Kathy the Teen-age Tornado #23 - 3.5 - $15

Presents really well for it's grade. There are some ncb wrinkles on the fc, and a chip out of the back cover. The interior has small pencil marks throughout - it seems whoever owned this originally was using it t get fashion ideas, as small pencil notes for "hair" and "dress" appear on multiple pages. Maybe I'm weird, but I actually like this sort of thing, it's a fun reminder of those who owned these books before us. Anyway, looks nicer than the grade!

I really dig the coloring with this one, especially the red text on the white background. And the supporting characters in that pale blue. Very unusual look.

This copy also has a subscription crease!! Some kid loved Patsy Walker enough to actually get a subscription in the Atlas era. I love that.

Patsy Walker #93 - 3.5 - $19

The sub crease is the main thing with this one. A tight book with night gloss.

MATT BAKER!

Lovers #85 - 2.0 - $39

This has some issues. Beyond the general wear and tear evident for a low grade book, there's a small hole in the fc right by the guy's package. There's also a puncture wound on the back cover, and it carries through several pages. You can barely see it in the scan running down from the ON in MONKEY. It's not very noticeable on the interior either, but it's there. There's also some spine roll.

The exterior isn't going to win any beauty contests, but luckily, that's what Baker's interior art is for.

Great Baker art and half-splash.

MATT BAKER!

Finally, this is arguably the best of the Matt Baker interiors. In fact, over at the Matt Baker checklist, that exact argument is made. With well over a hundred plus Baker stories reviewed, this is one of just 11 that he gives a full five star rating as the best of Baker's interior artwork.

http://pencilink.blogspot.com/2009/07/matt-baker-comics-checklist.html

It also boasts a really excellent Vince Colletta cover, with clear Baker influence.

Lovers #85 - 2.0 - $85

spine is split at top, and as you can see, there's some tanning, staining, and chips, plus general wear usual for this grade.

Some of the dark ad moody Baker art that earned it it's reputation:

Go-go checks! This one is pretty dirty, but it's solid, and the price is right. Why not throw it on the pile?

Young Love #60 - 3.5 - $8

The back cover has seen some action; at the top edge I think it got wet a little and there's a bit of staining. Overall the book is tight and flat. PQ is edging towards the tan side at the top edges.
