It was good but not great, and I feel like in today's market a show has to be great to survive. I'll definitely watch any future seasons if its picked up, but I dunno how much patience your average viewers will have with a TV show that actually takes effort to understand. In talking with a few friends at work many of them were left with a what the heck was that that I just watched sort of feeling. Great fight sequences, nice visually, but a little meandering overall, and tied together too quickly in that last episode. The ending battle is pretty cool but in general it all just felt so muddled and confusing. It all fits in to place but hot damn it just too confusing just to be confusing and edgy. Witcher needed to have either more eps, or less time jumping to cram stuff in. It would have been better as a full R rated show IMHO with much more fighting. Ultimately, what suffered most was character development - I could not have cared less who did, and didn't die. Although it was trying to honor the books more than the games to have a richer story, some of the flow was slightly challenging due to the three time jumps to tell all three character stories at a point in time. But in the end, I felt like it came together. Still, I am very much looking forward to Season 2. Especially after the results on that final battle, and how at least two of the characters ended up. (I haven't read the books, so don't crucify me) It was an entertaining season, but am I on the edge of my seat waiting for season 2? No. Will I watch season 2 when it comes out? Even when I knew it was a time jump it took me a while to process things which hurt my enjoyment. Everyone I watched it with felt the same. I suspect if I watch each episode 3 times each and read the books while playing the game this might be easier to swallow. Aside from this big setback its a very very good series. If it wasn't for the terrible structure I'd give it a A/A-, but because its so conflated I'd give it a B/B-. Production on this is stellar! I'm glad they didn't try and explain every single thing to the audience - most fiction works best when you have to work things out for yourself - and the different timelines was easy to follow once you knew what was going on. The final battle was also different and impressive.
