I am enjoying it also. Sometimes it’s hard to understand the accents.

I experienced this too. But still really enjoyed this show. Even went back to rewatch the finale.

After the 3rd episode I started to watch it with closed captions on and this helped with my enjoyment immensely.  I'd never have thought to do this if I hadn't just watched all 70 English dubbed episodes of Rise of Phoenixes (also on Netflix) with my wife.  Incidentally we both LOVED that series.

Being a huge Witcher fan I had really high expectations and that was probably why I was a little let down with the series.  It was good but not great, and I feel like in today's market a show has to be great to survive.

I'll definitely watch any future seasons if its picked up, but I dunno how much patience your average viewers will have with a TV show that actually takes effort to understand.  In talking with a few friends at work many of them were left with a what the heck was that that I just watched sort of feeling.

Great fight sequences, nice visually, but a little meandering overall, and tied together too quickly in that last episode. I think they'd do well to work a little more on character development and the humorous side of the Witcher, and a little less on the soul crushing destiny and world is about to end at every moment sentiment,

:gossip: It was already renewed by Netflix before Season 1 was even released. :foryou:

Netflix’s The Witcher is a show a lot like its protagonist: large, rugged, and not fond of explaining a damn thing. The fantasy epic stars Henry Cavill as silver-haired hunk Geralt of Rivia, a gruff wanderer and the eponymous Witcher. For some of us, that will be enough: Henry Cavill can Geralt our Rivias all day long. Unfortunately, The Witcher is not as straightforward an adventure as, say, The Mandalorian. There’s a lot of action happening around Geralt, and everything about it is understated to the point where it feels like you’re expected to know what everyone’s talking about.

While some shows use this confusion to good effect, explaining things in due time, The Witcher … does not. Which is a shame, because the show is fun! So let’s remedy that, in a handy Q&A that’ll fill you in on the important stuff — and more importantly, let you know what not to worry about.

So, what’s a witcher?

Wow, we’re really starting at the beginning, huh? A witcher is a monster hunter for hire.

*A* witcher? There’s more than one?

Yes! Witchers are rare, but Geralt is not the only one. An early episode begins with Geralt hunting a monster that killed another witcher, and you will hear Geralt mention someone named Vesemir at one point — that’s the name of the witcher who trained him. Despite the fact that other witchers are out there, generally speaking, The Witcher almost exclusively deals with the adventures of Geralt of Rivia and the people he encounters.

Why are witchers rare? Can I be a witcher?

Probably not. Witchers are once-normal humans who got mutated by a combination of medieval science and magic, which made them superhuman (more Captain America than Superman) and able to take potions too toxic for normal people. Turning into a witcher is a grueling process called the Trial of the Grasses, and only about a third of those who undergo it survive.

You sound like you’re making this up.

I’m not! The Witcher is based on a series of books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Geralt’s print adventures are very popular in Poland — there have been comics, a TV show, movie, and tabletop role-playing game all based on Sapkowski’s work. The most successful and famous adaptation, however, is The Witcher trilogy of video games by the studio CD Projekt Red.

Netflix has found its next global hit, and it's giving even "Star Wars" a run for its money.

"The Witcher," based on the fantasy novel series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, is the most in-demand TV series in the world across all platforms, according to data company Parrot Analytics. The company's ranking is based on "demand expressions," its globally standardized TV measurement unit that reflects the desire, engagement, and viewership of a series weighted by importance.

The show, which arrived on Netflix on December 20, passed Disney Plus' "Star Wars" series "The Mandalorian" as the top show in the world the week of December 22 to December 28. "The Witcher" was also the top show in the US with nearly 127 million demand expressions compared to "The Mandalorian's" 115 million demand expressions in the US that week.

It's an impressive start for "The Witcher" considering the popularity of "The Mandalorian," which had dethroned Netflix's "Stranger Things" as the most in-demand streaming series in the US last month, breaking its 21-week streak at the top of Parrot Analytics' charts.

I'm 2 episodes in to Witcher so far.

I'm not totally convinced by some of the acting so far but it;s early days.

Overall I'm intrigued by it. GOT it ain't but it's got potential.

It's beautifully shot and has bags of atmosphere.

You just have to go with it. The best part of the show that it doesn't take itself seriously. Yes, Cavill's wig so dang annoying to look at.

I finished it last night and i really, really wanted to like it more then I did.  The ending battle is pretty cool but in general it all just felt so muddled and confusing.  It all fits in to place but hot damn it just too confusing just to be confusing and edgy.  I didn't hate it but I'm liking Lost in Space Season 2 a lot better.

In a nutshell exactly how I felt.

Ep #3 and #8 were the best - probably due to more fighting.

Too many time jumps for an 8 ep season, too much talking.

Yenns boobs were fine the 1st time, after the next couple of times it was getting really tedious. Boobs and the F bomb do not an MA15 series make - either go all in or leave out the annoying ultra soft porn 'orgy', rubbish sex scenes and F bombs.

Witcher needed to have either more eps, or less time jumping to cram stuff in.

It would have been better as a full R rated show IMHO with much more fighting.

Ultimately, what suffered most was character development - I could not have cared less who did, and didn't die.

I won't be rushing to watch season 2.

Bummer you both had this experience. But I somewhat understand.

Although it was trying to honor the books more than the games to have a richer story, some of the flow was slightly challenging due to the three time jumps to tell all three character stories at a point in time. But in the end, I felt like it came together.

Still, I am very much looking forward to Season 2. Especially after the results on that final battle, and how at least two of the characters ended up.

Well boobs and swearing are there to stay, it follows with the video game, which I think the acting and atmosphere is more lifted from, than the books. (I haven't read the books, so don't crucify me)

It was an entertaining season, but am I on the edge of my seat waiting for season 2? No.

Will I watch season 2 when it comes out? Totally

One more episode left.

Confusing as $%&^ at times on those time jumps. Even when I knew it was a time jump it took me a while to process things which hurt my enjoyment. Everyone I watched it with felt the same.

I suspect if I watch each episode 3 times each and read the books while playing the game this might be easier to swallow.

Aside from this big setback its a very very good series. If it wasn't for the terrible structure I'd give it a A/A-, but because its so conflated I'd give it a B/B-.

Production on this is stellar!

Enjoyed it a lot, as did the wife.

I'm glad they didn't try and explain every single thing to the audience - most fiction works best when you have to work things out for yourself - and the different timelines was easy to follow once you knew what was going on.

The final battle was also different and impressive.

I'd agree that of the three character arcs the Princess one was the least interesting.
