I just got a batch back from CGC and this is the worst I've gotten so far. I had 2 books (of 15) that came back with restoration of slight color touch on cover. That sucks in itself, but it feels that all the other books suffered in grades as a result. I had about 4-5 books that were sold to me as 9 or 9+ and they really looked NM to me (for the record I have submitted about 50 silver age books so far and my other 9's received 8.5 to 9.6s in the past). So be it, I may have got ripped off. I can handle that, but one of my books had grading notes of erasure. it looks like the date stamp was written in pencil or charcoal some 50-60 years ago. I don't know if someone erased it or it just wore off, but is CGC judging the quality of date stamps now too? I certainly didn't erase it (I love date notations).

Here's the grader notes and an image of the book (is a resubmit worth it?):

If the arrival date had been left alone, it likely would have fared better. The fact that someone tried to erase it is generally not viewed favorably by CGC. And a small tear with a crease and spine stress which breaks color on a white cover certainly didn't help. I personally wouldn't resubmit this book...it's a good grade, IMO.

It also depends on the type of eraser used.  If they used a regular pencil eraser it will damage the paper and remove the gloss. Most likely what happened here. I have removed many grease pencil marks and never received this type of notation in the notes.

Great point...and it's nice to know there's an effective way of getting rid of grease pencil...
