1982 Shazam title splash signed by Don Newton 1 1

I'm looking at a nice Shazam title splash page from 1982 signed by Don Newton. Very cool! Dan Adkins inks. I notice in the item description that Don also worked on Aquaman, Batman and The Phantom. My memory is foggy, but I seem to recall that Don Newton took over for Jack Kirby's Fourth World when Jack left DC to go back to work for Marvel. Is that correct, or am I thinking of someone else?

The title name changed To: Return of the New Gods # 12-19
It was intended to be a 10 parts story
but they only made it to 8
