I would be surprised if Breathed has more originals in his possession than not. OTOH, I was also surprised this met reserve, considering it's been available for years. Great example, but also the equivalent of the AMERICAN FLAGG #1 cover in terms of strip art. I have to disagree with your disagree. There is about 45 Dailys and 6 Sundays in CAF galleries plus two dozen for sale by dealers (all Donnelleys). But he drew the series for almost 10 years even taking of some time and having reprints he did around 500 Sundays and 3000 dailies. I know some are in black holes but Breathed still has to have more. I have been looking for a good Cutter John but see very few out there.

If we are at the point where a pair of knockers causes outrage over anything and everything else then that's truly pathetic and weak minded and eventually the pendulum will swing back. It goes far, far, far beyond puritanical considerations. Anyone who's watched the last few Star Wars films knows that everyone involved in the franchise has made painstaking efforts to promote inclusivity/diversity and transform gender roles. More broadly speaking, few are concerned about how past art, literature and culture might be reevaluated in light of changing societal norms. This isn't just a pendulum that is going to swing back. To simply reflect Lucas' tastes or to educate masses on "narrative art"? I realize it's not either/or, but IF they did acquire EQ, then that balance is tilted far one way. Whatever the case, still can't wait for it to open! How is EQ "narrative" art, anyway? It's a static one panel painting?

I wasn’t suggesting it was puritanical. I was referring to identity politics outrage And don’t take my pendulum hope away, I’ll have nothing left Edited May 17 by Bronty

Sideshow Bob 606 posts Posted May 17 (edited) Just saw the Bernie Wrightson scene from Cycle of the Werewolf was withdrawn from Saturday's Day 3 internet-only auction. Probably because it would be the next-to-last lot on the last day, its not much of an action piece (clouds...), and the consignor wanted better placement in the auction. If you know who consigned it, let me know! I was looking forward to bidding on it! Bob Edited May 17 by Sideshow Bob

The narratives of lobby groups are not (always) reflective of the truth. The truth will win out in time. In our hearts we all know what’s BS and what isn’t. And saying a woman (or a man for that matter) with a ‘come hither’ look is offensive is BS. Sometimes people have sex and sometimes they use that look. So what. Pretty good prices especially for part one with $11250 a page. It's all a matter of perspective - from mine, there goes any hope of me getting a "broken up" page at a reasonable price 1 Sideshow Bob reacted to this

One of the greatest Superman stories of all time....ended right around where I thought it would. There was a chance to push up to $60k, but I always thought the floor was around $50k. You and I and everybody else that in their forties around here can agree on this, but...are you asking any teens and twenty-somethings? My sister-in-law is 27 and lemme tell you, she and her friends are absolutely of one-mind: what Gene posted and what Glen Gold previously posted. I've met enough of them now to know it's a 'thing' (as they are wont to say!) not just CNN/MSNBC propaganda. 1 delekkerste reacted to this

Judging the artist on sexual proclivities or interest is a slippery slope too. combine the two and we might as well be sliding downhill Yes, for most things I agree. But for high profile purchases like EQ... maybe it matters. Maybe some organization that was making a decision of whether to display it publicly might say to themselves that they don’t want to touch it with a 50 foot pole now, because of that revelation. As we economists say it could affect the person who is on the margin. super rich frazetta fan boy doesn’t care, but Lucas Museum probably weighed it into their calculus. And if that kept them from bidding it affected the price. I’m personally a fan boy, if I had a billion.. i’d put that baby up in my sweet billionaire comic library / comic art gallery for 5.4mm. But, it’s a cover painting from my favorite run of silver age comics / what I feel is the first comic publications that tried to subvert the comic book code (talking Warren, not just Eerie) 2 delekkerste and exitmusicblue reacted to this
