Cool covers that were ruined

I see this comic pop up for sale occasionally and always thought it would have been a cool cover.

Until they decided to "improve" it by telling us what's inside. :boo:

I like Amazing Spider-man 36's all-black cover.  It was a real understated way to pay respect to those lost in the 9/11 attacks.

For me, the newsstand edition's barcode really distracts from the otherwise clean nature of the cover.

I agree. The bar code has killed many an ASM cover since it arrived on #157, but none so obtrusively as V2 #36

On the flip, the bar code on this one is completely ruined by Byrne's 'art'

Fantastic Four #50.

Good Surfer image, but Johnny Storm strolling to class in a topcoat steps on the climax of the best story of all freaking time.

Forgot about that one.  I never did care for that either.

Might as well have had Sue in an apron on the other corner talking about how she just baked her first cake.

Charlton were always quite good at that. Many a sterling cover image ruined by the big box o' words....

Excellent example.  How much cooler and more powerful would that image have been without that stupid blurb in the lower corner?

That seriously is an excellent cover, otherwise. That Batman art is A+.

Abslutely.  Love the cover.

Just don't know what compelled them to put that turd Robin on the cover.

Like someone is going to look at that cover and say....."Hmmmmm.....doesn't look like Robin is in this one.....pass!".

If you paint over it in black - it's a truly great cover.

Edit: Like the post above illustrates. lol
