I've noticed on a great many SA Marvels that the cover slightly overhangs the top of the interior pages. As a consequence, the top of the cover gets frayed. Is there a name for this?

A very common defect on Silver Age Marvels. In fact, it's one of the ways you can detect trimming on those books...

I don't think it's a defect. It's the way it is made, A slight overhang is natural, less raggedy the better

I agree. Perhaps a better word would be "trait"...

I like that. Printing defects sound so negative. Traits is much nicer. I have many a book with the good ole printer's crease trait
