Just Back From C2E2 - Chicago 1 1

So I drove to Chicago this weekend to attend the C2E2 Convention. Before I show the comics I purchased, I also got some autographs. I got Marv Wolfman to sign Teen Titans: Games original graphic novel, I got Chris Claremont to sign my Uncanny X-Men #1 Masterworks, and I got Rob Liefeld to sign the New Mutants Graphic Novel. My two biggest disappointments were not getting autographs from Marc Silvestri and George Perez. I stood in line to see George for 2 hours on Friday and stood in line for another 2 hours on Saturday, and I finally just gave up. According to people in line, George was signing up to 25 books at a time (for $5 a signature). At a big convention like this, it would seem the proper thing to do would be limit signatures to 1-2 books. I also missed out on a Marc Silvestri autograph; whenever I went to his table, he was gone or when I got there, there was a significant line.

I also dropped off Amazing Spider-Man #101, #194, #300, and #361 for grading by CGC. I thought I would be able to just walk up there, but, boy, was I wrong. I have to give a "shout-out" to the CGC employees for staying calm, cool, and collected when a horde of OCD collectors (myself included, mind you) showed up at their booth. I know they have plenty of experience with this, but I'm not sure I could have kept a level-head during that time.

I had multiple items on my want list, but three that I just could not find were: Showcase #6 (First Challengers), Rawhide Kid #17, and Challengers of the Unknown #1 (a few copies, but in POOR condition).

Anyway, here's what I got:

Strange Tales #101 CGC 6.0 (old holder), Strange Tales #110 CGC 1.8 (lower than I was hoping for, but the price was right), Brave & The Bold #35, #36, and #44 (completed my Hawkman Brave & The Bold run), and Showcase #40 (Metal Men).

All in all, it was a good weekend.

One of my sons and I drove the 800 miles from Winnipeg to Chicago’s summer con back in 2013. I was in awe of the fantastic variety of books that were available. I filled in several holes in my collection that weekend.
