Similar to the Mignola and Tim Sale threads, how about one for Mark Schultz? I saw Mark today at the ECCC and picked up a cool dino piece and he was nice enough to do couple small sketches in my books. He told me the prelim was for an unused wine bottle label for CapRock winery located in the Texas panhandle circa 2011. By any chance does anyone have pictures of the final labels he illustrated?

I got the prelim in 2005, and just missed getting the published cover. Fast forward to last year and I got a 2nd chnace and was able to add it to me collection.

Brian, awesome piece! I know the satisfaction of reuniting a prelim and finished piece, I have a couple of John Buscema pieces like that.

A few years ago I got this artwork at SSDC. I asked Mark about it and he isn't sure what it was for, possibly an ad. Don't think its a con drawing or commission, since he signed it "M Schultz" but also signed it "Mark Schultz 10/10/88". Probably when he sold the artwork. Anyone recognize it?

I was first exposed to Mark's work with his Xenozoic Tales back in the 80s. Loved his inks you could see he was influenced by Raymond, Williamson and Wood, one of the best inkers to come out 80s independent comics. His skills grew over the years, I especially liked his dry brush technique, one of the best examples was this cover for Captain Gravity TPB.

Not sure on the price but it would be a long wait.

A wait for a commission, or a published/unpublished piece?  I wasn't thinking commission, just what his illustrations go for when buying direct from him.

He recently had pieces from his Storms at Sea book (and other art) at a show.  $6,000 for finished (published, 11 x 14) pieces from Storms at Sea.  I'm not sure if there were others from SaS.  But they were also $6,000.  A few color pieces (or they had color) around 11 x 17 were over $10,000.  I remember one was $14,000.

Cool, thank you for ending that dream!  His art is so very lush and appealing to me.

He also had 9” x 12” tight shaded pencil “prelim” illustrations for 2K. ( he called them prelims because they were used for later larger finished illustrations but they were not your typical prelims).
