Ok, but another poster introduced the IPO price, not me.

I was going by the year the dentist bought his Action #1 which was 1985. By then the stock was down as much as $2.00 a share. Trying to stick to apples to apples when comparing.

The IPO share price for Apple back in 1980 was $22.  Motley Fool says the split adjusted price of Apple at the time of the IPO is $.39 (not $2).  It fell that low again in 1985 (but I think Dave bought the book before then).  Which means for $25K you could have bought approximately 64,000 shares at the split adjusted price at the time of the IPO or in 1985 (the year Jobs left the company).  

For present value you multiply 64,000 shares by the current price of approximately $182 and you get about $11.6 million.  Which is what Rob said up thread.

You do NOT multiply the total shares by the splits because you are starting with a split adjusted price

So the “dentist” was certainly a smart buyer getting himself great copies of Action #1 and Detective #27 in the 1980’s...

if you start with 25K worth of Apple at 2 buck a share, you have 12500 shares.  All you need do now to calculate its present worth is use the splits to calculate how many shares he has now (588,000 shares) Then multiply by todays price.  183.  that looks like 107 million bucks to me.  Its another thing to calculate how much he paid fr each share owned today, but the VALUE of his investment is now 100M.

So if the Edgar Church collection was discovered in 1977 (from which this Action #1 was found), and this copy was sold around 1984, that's seven years that it wasn't in the hands of the Dentist. In all that time no one ever bothered to take a photo of it? The highest graded Action #1? Or if someone did, no image survives? Is there a reason for this lockdown of no-photos-allowed?

Someone could have taken a photo but photo taking was a lot less common before digital cameras and you had to send negatives in to get them printed. 

And Action 1 was just a comic book, not the iconic collectible it is now.

Ah, the good ol' days.  My dad used a dark room at work and I would help him develop photos.  I swear I can still smell the chemicals we used.

It is possible that a condition of the sale was to include any and all pics of the book.  The owner hasn't shared any in 35 years.

It’s a fake, a phony, a fraud brought about as one of the great conspiracies in American pop culture. Look for it only in the dark corners of the internet next to unicorns, Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster.

I saw bigfoot once in my backyard when I was a kid, so don't be cracking wise about it, see?

It's funny how everybody is supposed to take someone else's word for it that this Action #1 is supposed to be NM. I'd like to see a photo for myself. It's just a big, fat red flag to me that in the 52 years since it was discovered, not one single photo exists of it.
