Oh, wow. I can see why that's often missing! Super cool!!

Is there a similar pin-up in Action 340 (first Parasite)? I ask because I have two copies of that without a centerfold, too. Any other notorious DC books off the top of your head??  :foryou:

So I just got back from my 4th trip out to buy this OO collection.

Each long box I open is a mystery.  Some boxes have had with big water stains, but every once in a while a GREAT box shows up.

Today he presented me with 3 long boxes & 1 short box to go through.  The first box I opened (the short box) was 100% Fantastic Fours starting with #6 and going up to about 200 I think.

Some of them are GORGEOUS!

Take a look:

The 48 presents like a 7.0 but I found a 2" tear on the back cover.

The 49 is superb.  I think with a press it's an 8.5 with a chance at a 9.0.

The 50 is here too but only a 4.0 or so.

Coming back from CGC

48 is a CGC 6.0 (tear on back cover brings it down)

49 is a CGC 8.5

I am going to look at a collection in a few days, supposedly about 5000 books, large portion being 1960's, and I believe superhero stuff.  Fingers crossed for some good stuff.  I haven't bought too many collections but a friend and I have been looking to buy some to pad our personal stash and also to make some money selling.  If this is a honey pot, it will probably cost a couple grand, anyway.  Will be using some of the advice in this thread, offer wise.

All the books in your sigline will be there, and MORE.

I tried that "What kind of price are you looking for?" method with him years ago and his wife wouldn't have it.  They always wanted me to give the first figure.... sometimes they took it and sometimes they negotiated it up.

I still did pretty good when I bought from him years ago, but I never got "the deal of the century" on anything.

I would recommend a considerable lowball and than an aggressive resurgence when you are escorted from his property.

A couple grand for 5000 (large portion Silverage) would be the deal of the century.  That's $.40c a comic.

I feel like I got an amazing deal on this collection I just bought and I spent over $20,000.

Doing the math, I am sure you are closer than me.  I certainly will not be spending $20,000.  Even my half, at $10,000, or close to it, is more than I would be willing to spend.  Hopefully, I will come away with some solid stuff.

Is the collection missing the Keys?  If you start going thru the collection and see it is not cherry picked then don't be afraid to make a nice offer.  You'll easily make your money back.

The collection I just bought had a TOS 39 which graded out as a 4.0.  That's a $6000 comic right there.

There's a lot of good advice in this thread on how to price out and value a collection.  If you haven't read the thread go back and take a look.

I agree. On the other side: if the collection is missing the keys dont be afraid to walk away as you could be buying stuff that is harder to sell.

Unless the price is nice and you are buying for your own collection/not looking purely for resell opportunities.

Well, hmmmmm.  Not what we had been told, is about the best I can say.  The silver age content was waaaay over stated or misremembered and there was much indie drek and 90's.  There were some keys and we will make our money back and then some but this was not a honey hole. Also, storage and condition were factors.  The highlights are SME 15, Eternals 1,4, ASM 238, 252, NM 87, 98, Star Wars 1.  No high grade books, and not much over 9.0.  I still have 8 boxes to go through but there is a lot of run filler and I am not a dealer looking to sell $1-2 books.

SME15 is on fire right now.  If it's 9.0-9.2 that'll get you half your money back right there.

That takes it down to about $400.  Are you going to buy the collection or pass on it?

It was a bit of a strange situation.  I think we will take the books, but the $ is a little fluid right now.  Hoping to pin it down tomorrow.
