Looking through this thread full of great commissions made me realize something I hadn’t thought of in years...Charles Vess is an excellent Spiderman artist!

Although his body of work on spiderman is very limited: a handfull ASM & Web of Spidey covers he illustrated in the mid-80’s, the ASM 277 main story (“Cry of the Wendigo”), the Spidey and black cat lithos (1988), the Spirits of the Earth graphic novel, and the Spidey/hobgoblin poster, I think it’s fair to say that he’s among the top 5 Spidey artists!

the commissions posted here are gorgeous, and if there are more, I’d love to see them posted here 👍🏻

One of the best and well said . He actually is a rare artist in terms of his body of works on Spiderman . When it comes to the black suit three names come to mind;

Ron Frenz

Mike Zeck

Charles Vess

All of these artists are important but I think the most iconic black suit covers come from each :

ASM 252 :Frenz

Web of Spiderman 32 :Zeck

Web of Spiderman 1: Vess

of these Web of 1 has to be the most iconic . As for commissions or works from a Vess on Spiderman I’ve been saving a few pictures I archived over the years . Get ready ...

This is all I could find so vintage Vess 1985-?

not much at all!

That was a very cool piece you had . Why did you let it go? These things are hard to come by that was a great example

My focus changed from collecting commissioned pieces to published pieces, and most likely, I sold the Vess piece to raise funds towards a Keown Hulk cover.

Congrats! Did you get Stelfreeze at NYCC this year? I was in line on Thursday when he cut off for the day, but he was doing some really fun stuff.

I bought a predone piece from him, but the MJ was a home piece. I had been trying for years and he messaged me out of the blue. You can say the stars were aligned!
