I also noticed the note in the 3rd picture. I'm guessing these books didn't ship direct from CGC? If so, the company you submitted the comics through may have received a damaged box and missed the damage when shipping you your books. Additionally, on large CGC shipments (25+ slabs) I have often seen cracked slabs due to the weight of the parcel (the bigger they are the harder they fall).

Hope this all gets sorted out satisfactorily for you!

So these books didn't ship direct to you from CGC? That's problematic since that adds another set of hands on the books in between and will allow everyone to disavow being the culprit in causing the damage. Looks like you're screwed.

The note is just desk clutter, this was shipped directly to me from CGC.

If you haven't already, I would contact Brittany with pics. Based on past experience they should quickly reholder the comic for you at no expense.

With the damage done, the book is no longer a 9.8. I’m not sure if it can be pressed out.

CGC will then most likely offer you the insured value (the value you declared on the submission form) in exchange for the damaged comic. Hopefully you didn't declare a value lower than it is worth. If you opt to keep the comic they may offer to credit you the difference between 9.8 and the new estimated grade. Either way it is never going to be as good as if you had simply received your comic undamaged. It sucks. I know. I just finished going through the same thing with a $1k Vault of Horror #35 that was similarly damaged.

Hope you are able to get it pressed back to 9.8 or able to find a replacement. :wishluck:

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear about your Vault of Horror #35. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

This is the second book in its new holder, from the same invoice with the now damaged Action Comics #473. I sent it last May for a new holder, the grade was 9.8.

Here is the photo CGC sent me of the back cover, after they removed it from the holder for inspection, as is procedure for reholder submissions.

The indent meat the book would no longer grade 9.8. So I opted to press and regrade.

Here is the back of the book, in its new holder.

So far the more i see,  myself and many others have lost faith in CGC. One of the reasons I have not sent in another submission this year with turn around times hitting up to 5/6 months on some tiers, status updates that have no consistency,  fast tracks that have taken longer than regular submissions,  No movement on the Registry Requests since June 9th, glitches signing on saying host was down , HORRIBLE NEWTON RINGS ,  random trash in slab,  multiple size slabs on same books, mislabeled books, and now damaging reholder books? This has just become sad. it appears they have just given up on taking pride in the product they sell and us as customers.  "The only reputable company " is quickly fostering a reputation that will have more of us giving up on them. It has just become unacceptable and enough is enough.

Recap and Update

A Brief Recap

April, 2019

I decided to send six books in for re-holdering. All six are shipped by myself, in their original holders, all six graded 9.8. Invoice total: $119, shipping $24.65, totaling $143.65.

May, 2019

I get an email from CGC telling me that upon review, that graders have determined that four of the six books will receive lower grades. The email included photos and options; to have the damaged books sent back raw, re-holdered with lower grades, or pressed and regraded. I chose the latter.

The bill for pressing and re-grading came to $74.00.

May, 2019

I received the two books that weren't mentioned in the email as being damaged, back in brand new holders.

I got the JLA #70 off eBay earlier this year, it was damaged in transit, cracked on the right side of the holder. After getting this book, I reminded myself that I had several books that needed new holders, so I filled out an invoice, that lead to this slippery slope...

The Man of Steel book looked good at first, then I flipped it over.

The Man of Steel book had similar damage to the other books, so the JLA #70 was really the only book that survived.

June, 2019

I email CCG to explain what happed, I was told I could sent the book in for a review. I also sent before and after photos.

Man of Steel #18 BEFORE

2044509461_MoS18Before.JPG.0b7dbb369d3982ce4b530fe174b80513.JPG

It cost me $16.95 to have the book shipped back for review. At this point I have now spent $234.60. I should also note that I first emailed a CGC employee about the first invoice, expressing my concerns about the handling of my books in CGC's care, I didn't rule out the possibility that they were damaged in transit to them, but I felt something was off about all of this. I did not hear back, so I emailed CGC directly about the Man of Steel book, I also asked that the damage be pressed on this book, as I was sure a review would determine the grade would drop.

A few weeks after I sent the book back, I get an update that the book was shipped back to me, I emailed the CGC rep who was working with me on this, asking about the status, no response. I called, was told the book retained the same grade. I got the book back the same way, my concern was not addressed.

September, 2019

I got the first two books back in 9.8 grade.

These two look good and I cannot tell were the damage was, hats off to CCS.

A few weeks later I got the other two books back, they also retained their grade.

BUT...

These two came back damaged!

P1030361.thumb.JPG.2bde379c5816ae3a683033908107ad8d.JPG

I put together a long email to CGC with photos, including the undamaged box the books came back in.

Update

I got a response from CGC with instructions to send the book back for a complimentary re-holder, I was also told that I would be reimbursed for shipping. After reading the instructions carefully, I emailed back to ask if the books would be pressed and regraded, I got a response back telling me that the instructions didn't saying anything about pressing and to please read carefully.

The rep clearly did not read my email carefully, as I explained that the books were damaged, I also asked that CGC fix this by pressing the books again or starting the process for FMV reimbursement. Putting a damaged book in a new holder will not fix the book.

I hate to sound whinny here but I feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle here. I'm also convinced most of this damage happened in CGC's possession. CGC also need to address the lack of quality control, especially with placing books in loose inner wells.

I do not know who at their customer service you are emailing,  but from most I have talked with the only person who has been any help and actually listened to the issues has been Brittany.  If you haven't already emailed her directly  I would try that. I believe  her email is:

She was actually the first person I emailed when I got the MoS book back.
