Yeah, the whole "no penetration" rule is a bummer.

Quite possibly the most unintentionally funny contradiction in terms of the year.

It's porn. Regardless of how "artistic" it may be, it's porn.

It IS nothing more than crude porn. Nothing particularly artistic or interesting about it from the standpoint of a guy who loves comics AND a guy who watches porn. It's not artistic. It's not erotic. It's simply the sort of garbage a 14 year-old would draw.

CGC is within their rights to refuse service.

I don't understand the appeal of this comic at all.

I am a free-speech guy to the max, but I also honor the decision of a business to refuse to work with pornography.

Leave it in Mylar and be done with it. I'm sure it's just as "stimulating" as looking at a slabbed copy.

I don't think my action man would agree with you Mark. Even with gripping hands.

People have sex with some pretty "offensive" things in real life.  Until I meet the devil. I consider the devil a made up entity.

I'm ok with cgc's decisions and yours. I'm ok with my copy of faithless not being encapsulated.

I understand you don't want to see the image if you don't want to, that's your choice. This is why the book was shipped in a black bag to cover the image. I understand not having it shown in public and it being your choice if you want to see it. If you slab a nude image, it should be for your eyes only. However, since this is porn cover, by your definition, do you associate BOOM! Studios with porn? Do you still read their books or any book/magazine company that are associated with porn? Do you like that they are associated with porn? I understand this may be CGC's logic but there are other comic covers (as some have already posted) that display porn images was well. I find it hard to understand where the line is and that any image with penetration is their limit when there many covers are slabbed with nudity and porn images as well.

Like someone has posted earlier, money is money, and I think they are leaving money on the table for books like this.

Yay, the prudes vs. the "enlightened" debate!

:cloud9:

It's a matter of optics. If porn is being slabbed, people are going to see 1. the porn, and 2. the slab, probably in that order. Very rarely are they going to see the publisher, if at all. If you see the porn in the slab, the connection between the two is established; being in the slab is, as I said before, tacit approval for it.

There isn't the same type of association...and thus effect...for NON-porn books that Boom or others may publish. Again: I don't have an issue with anyone choosing to expose themselves to porn, so choosing to be a consumer of Boom or other companies isn't the point. The issue is the unavoidable visual connection of a slab and the porn inside that slab. Brand association. It doesn't matter whether CGC slabs 5 million non-porn comics; the time they slabbed the porn comic is all that would matter.

I don't like that CGC slabs ANY type of erotica (which includes Playboy), but that's the way it goes. I am glad that they draw the line somewhere.

How many people go out and blow up things & people...?

Now, how many people have sex...?

Quite a difference. Everyone I know who is an adult has had sex. I've never known anyone who has blown up things & people.

It's a bad argument, and always has been a bad argument, and the go-to bad argument of people who try and argue that the depiction of sex is no worse, and often better, than the depiction of violence. The depiction of sex and the depiction of violence are two different things, and, in the normal course of things, don't stimulate people the same way. In the normal course of things, mind you.

If I see people and things being blown up, it doesn't inspire me to go out and do the same...which is true of almost everyone.

If I see people having sex, there's a good chance I'll be inspired to go out and do the same...which is also true of almost everyone, which is why porn exists.

Sex is a perfectly natural and wonderful thing...between consenting adults, behind closed doors. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it...behind closed doors. I don't care what you do in your bedroom...provided you keep it there.

You want to see penetration, and you're an adult, knock yourself out...in your house/bedroom.

And remember that people who work at grading companies may not enjoy the same choice as you do to NOT be exposed to it, if they don't want to. You rob them of that choice when you send it in with no warning, and they open up your shipment....something worth considering, no...?

Please read all my posts... Im ok with cgc's decision and I'm ok with peoples opinions really. I do find it strange that we have somewhat demonized our own bodies.

I'm not here to argue BUT you may think deeply about your statement about not knowing anyone that has blown things up. To a certain degree it happens everyday... A lot of people in this country make HUGE sacrifices (right or wrong) so some of us can live in "comfort".

This discussion isn't about the military and violence committed in the course of war.,.and that's not a discussion allowed on this board anyway.

You said it was "warped" to consider the depiction of "blowing up things and people" as "totally fine" (which no one said), but that the depiction of sex acts was not. The answer is that neither of them is "totally fine", and discretion ought to be used in both cases. The very old argument that "violence is totally fine, but sex is horrifying" isn't one that anyone here has made, or likely would make. The reason that argument is invalid is because they're not the same thing, and the human psyche doesn't react to them the same way. It's not "demonization"; on the contrary, it's a recognition of the special place that the act has in life, that we're not animals, and that it's special enough to keep out of the public square.

And, call me crazy, but the less exposure children have, the better. The more "public" we are about sex, the more risk they have. Let them be kids, and not put them at any more risk of stumbling across something they're not ready for than is absolutely necessary.

PS. CGC has taken a stance against the extreme depiction of violence...albeit in very specific cases...but it's something.
