Rare Canadian Price Variant auction - Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16

Hi,

This is my first time trying this, so hope it's all good!

Wanted to give notice to you Variant collectors out there of a rare Canadian Price Variant I have up for auction with ComicLink - this is the last weekend and it ends the evening of July 1st (appropriately on Canada Day 🇨🇦 - funny coincidence in timing)!

It's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #16, CGC 9.4, White pages!! Canadian Edition! (as CGC calls them) http://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions_first.asp&id=1323980

Even just the regular edition is becoming a hot book - 1st appearance of the new female Captain Marvel - Monica Rambeau! Way back in 1982, long before Carol Danvers took the name! Monica is also one of the early African American super-heroes! And now since a young Monica Rambeau was a major character in the Captain Marvel movie, word is that she'll reappear in costume in an upcoming sequel. With the first movie set in 1995, a sequel set in the modern day would have Monica just the right age to pick up the Captain Marvel mantle from her "Aunt Carol".

But being the rare Canadian Price Variant makes this book a huge catch - there are only 9 copies in total in all grades of this book on the CGC Census!! And there are only 3 copies graded higher than mine - a single 9.8 and two 9.6s. The Canadian Price Variants account for less than 2% of the graded copies of this book!

And since the Canadian Price Variants are only from the Canadian newsstands of the 1980s and not the comic shop direct editions, there is expected to be a very low survivorship - unfortunately most sellers and buyers tended to be pretty rough with these books (never mind the number of returns to Marvel). So you'll see very few Canadian Price Variants in high grade like this!

For those of you new to Canadian Price Variants, they existed for a handful of years in the 80s when the Canadian and American currencies started to diverge a fair bit in value. So for a few years, instead of the later listing of the prices in both currencies, Marvel and DC distributed these Variants only to Canadian newsstands with just the price in Canadian funds listed on the cover and in the indica. Otherwise the Variants are exactly the same as the regular editions, very similar to the much sought after 35-cent Variants of the late 70s. This Canadian Price Variant ASM Annual #16 has a cover price of $1.25, whereas the regular edition has a $1.00 cover price.

I think there's a good chance you could get a very good deal on this book. Bidding is still fairly low - in comparison eBay lists are of a 9.6 at $1,695, a 9.0 at $750, and a 6.5 at $379.

So if you're looking for rare and hot books, especially Variants, here's a great opportunity!

Thanks for reading!
