Do you care what people say in BIN offers?

I do because I am becoming a jaded malcontent on eBay lately.

Example: Let's make believe I have an item listed for $100 WITH a BIN

Buyer 1: Offers me $60 - with some explanation that this is what they are willing to pay AND... hey nooooooooww.... they will pay me immediately !

I counter at $85 saying it is the best I am going to do.

Buyer 1: Offers $70

I counter at $85 saying it is the best I am going to do.

Buyer 1: Offers $75 telling me that I am lucky to get the offer that they are making...

I counter at $85 saying it is the best I am going to do.

Buyer 1: Offers me $80 telling me that I am robbing people but he needs the book for his dying grandmother who had but one wish... for him to get the book.

I decline and then raise the price of the book to $150.

Then, two months later I message the buyer when the book sells for $150.

:D  @jaybuck43 knows me for being 'this' guy at time.  I mean, today, I played a little prank on my girlfriend, and no, she did not stab me.  Her face dropped and she had the look of OMG on her face... and the look of death... but she did not stab me as @PeteFromPetesBasement thought she would. lol

You and me Buzz, thinking alike.  These types of eBay situations are actually fun in a weird way when you look back on them.

The guy who consistently gets ebay to rule in his favor and deny refunds is malcontented.

It's not that.

It's the whole scam game going on.

My friend sees what I do and decided to start break up his Jordan collection so he has offered his sneakers online.  This was his first time doing this.  He was ready to box it all up and ship it out and he was confused about something so he called me.  As I am going through how to print a label, he asked a question that did not make sense.  After further prodding, we figured out he was being scammed into sending $1200 worth of sneakers to this guy in Miami.  This was NOT an eBay sale.  When I urged him to call PayPal and confirm my suspicions he was asked by PayPal to refund the "buyer" because what the buyer was doing did not sit well with them either and they also believed it to be a scam.

There is so much nonsense going on both online and offline.

I've had some buyers offer fairly low on an item and then talk me out of selling to them because they include some whining about the cost of shipping or some other sob story about why I should really be giving them a break on this deal. Or worse-- they tell me that they should have the money in about a week or so. Not only will I not bother with a counter to these folks, I also put them on my block list.

Same goes for someone who sends me a note on an item I have only listed days ago and without any BIN set up--- trying to tell me how they want to offer X amount since I am having trouble selling the item. I block them, do not respond, and might raise the price a little bit. Sort of vindictive maybe-- but I know these people have multiple accounts and a definite interest in the item- and they might see the price going up and figure they better buy it at my asking price before it goes up again. Oh-- but they do send me about 4 follow up messages asking why they are blocked from buying it, why haven't I responded, and then get angry with me. I am always wary of the number of psychos out on ebay. Run away from them as soon as you see the first sign of their BS.

Now I might add that I have had some nice notes about an item I have up for sale as well. Well written stories about the item and the attachment to it can influence me to counter or just accept. The key is not to come off sounding like some clown. Also helps that your feedback is not filled with negatives and feedback to others that looks like a minefield.

My trouble is when you get into really high grades what to say to the seller. Talking 9.6 and 9.8...

The example is a seller has a raw book up for 600... that's 200 more than GPA on a 9.6 cgc book...but if it turns out to be a cgc 9.8 it would be priced 600 under GPA. I'm thinking about offering 350 and adding the message if he thinks it's a 9.6 is this fair to him? What would you say? Book has been sitting there for months at the 600 price.

I'm glad I dont sell on Ebay.....

I don’t trust privatized consignment such as consignment with a dealer (sorry dealers).  Saw too much funny business going on when I was helping store owners and dealers out when I was in college.  If I am not selling it myself then I consign it to a platform where I can witness the sale myself like ComicLink.

It's a bit like navigating your way through a minefield---the potential is there for it to blow up in your face. Ah, but what glorious treasures await the ones brave enough to risk it...  lol

If I were a high grade collector, I would only buy books that were already CGC graded when it comes to ebay. That seems like a lot of money to gamble on them being accurate of how nice a book is-- seems like the only way to avoid it is either in person raw (relying on your own eyes and ability to grade) OR an already slabbed book. This assumes your plan is to get it graded anyway.

I agree with this. I'll just wait for the next graded 9.6 to pop up. I'm not much for risk taking and stress.

But we're talking about ebay and as you say here, "This was NOT an eBay sale."

Apples and Apples - same stuff - try not to get tunnel vision here.  In the end you are both dealing with online transactions and poor behavior... figured you were tired of hearing first person narrative examples.

So when you are asking as to why I am jaded with certain things perhaps it is because I’ve seen quite a bit of nonsense across eBay and related platforms.

When you see someone who decides to take the initiative and enter the realm of selling off some of their own things on their own rather than consignment or selling to a dealer at a deep discount you want to cheer them on.  Instead you watch them get taken advantage of or someone tries to and to me that is discouraging.

Do you really want other personal examples ?  I figure you and others might be tired of them. I have a saved email where I am being yelled at by a prospective buyer that I must be some socialist or communist because I would not sell him a piece of Disney art at the price he wanted to pay.  I got nasty right back.

such is life though...

Agreed - I hate it when I get the usual BS message - " It's for my son, I lost my job, it will cheer him up. We've had beans on toast for a week - will you take $20 on your $70 item?"

Reply - "no - spend the $20 on food for your kid"

Refuse offer, block buyer.

It's a BS scam every time that rely on people to be soft as heck  'for the kids' (or similar)

The only thing I care about in an offer is the $ amount. Everything else is noise.

Make an offer. If I like it I'll accept it or counter. I always have a reason for my listed price and also have an amount that I would accept.

But wut about THE CHILDREN.

A very common message that does nothing in determining my acceptance:

"If you accept I will pay immediately."

Is this the most common message, because I received this about 10 times for an item before it sold (accompanied by offers that were almost insulting)?

It seems to be. The thing I don't get is that I don't need the money immediately but everyone should pay within two days. However, if you are negotiating price back and forth you should also be able to pay that quickly.

I like your avatar, BTW.

Too bad that show hasn't been awesome since Season 7 ended.
