Weather to crack, press and regrade a GSXM 1 8.5?

Thinking of cracking the GSXM 1 CGC graded 8.5 in pics.  It was submitted in 2006 and was never pressed prior20190730_194358.thumb.jpg.0e6d5d116b8f04c79fc7ee9aaf305ec6.jpg.  Looking closely I see it may benefit from a press and clean and maybe get a bump in the grade.  Any thoughts?

I would make an attempt to get the grading notes; it may be worth it. If that right edge damage is mentioned in the notes, smoothing it out could make a significant difference in grade. That may also have been caused from the book moving in the holder. Either way, a good press and clean seem appropriate for this copy. And those tiny nicks on the bottom edge are an extremely common flaw for this book, and IMO shouldn't significantly affect the grade...good luck!  (thumbsu

Thanks for the notes.

The right edge of the front cover wasn't mentioned in the notes, but there's definitely something going on there. I think a skilled presser may be able to fix that, but it may happen again if the book isn't secured in the new holder properly. The bottom staple wear appears to be permanent. I still think it's a decent candidate for a press, but in my mind this is more a case of damage control than anything else. A modest increase in the grade may be the best you could hope for...

The damage to the bottom right edge most likely happened post encapsulation. If it doesn’t break color it is an easy fix.

Go for it. I actually bought an 8.5 GSX1 that had never been pressed and sent it in for press and grade.  I’ll post when I hear back this week.  Fingers crossed.  It’s a gamble but fun for sure...just wish they wouldn’t down grade it though...should always guarantee the same previous grade or better IMO but others have gotten lower grades...
