I’ve read posts here about Greggy’s mystery boxes, which are said to be quite generous and loaded with high quality material, not just full of drek.

I did see one that looked quite impressive.

Don't believe the hype re: Greggy's mystery boxes. They were all drek.

Why did I buy it?
Metropolis isn't a walk-in store, so I guess it was a souvenir of sorts. I visited about 4 stores in NY, bought something from each.

What's the "chance to win big" prize?
IIRC, a HG Wolverine #1 could be found in several of the boxes.

When will I open it?
When I finish work this afternoon.

(By the way, Graham Cracker's in Chicago was the best store we visited. )

the only person who is going to get the big prize is someone from the sellers family, or one of his friends

So, just to be clear, you're claiming that Metropolis is running a scam?

So I opened the box, and to say it was a mixed bag would be an understatement.

Firstly, there were seven comics in the box. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? That's up to you.
Overall... I'd keep the 'Marvel Super Heroes' and the 'Marvel Tales'. The rest ...meh

Here is what was in the box:

Marvel Super Heroes #1 (VG).
Marvel Tales #30 (VG).
Daredevil #20 (VG).
Superman  #268 (VF).
House of Mystery #191 (G-. Rat-chew?)
Ms Tree #43 (VF/NM)
American Flagg #12 (NM)

So... three books that might get $10 each on the market, and drek? Sorry man.

The ever present difference between market value and the ubiquitous "Overstreet value".

I was more interested in what I wanted to keep. And then there's only two!:(

I don't regret my purchase. Like I said, it was my souvenir of being in NY and visiting Metropolis.  (Loved staying in NY by the way! My wife and I would live there if we had the $$.)

Thanks for sharing.  You should have posted a group shot of some of your most expensive comics as the contents and worked a deal with Metro so you get a commission as it would drive a ton of sales their way

I think part of the reward of a mystery box is the surprise/entertainment value. It's not something you can resell, but it's like lottery tickets. You're never going to win, but some people just want to play.

What I thought when I bought it.

yeah pretty on par with a mystery box you get 2-3 things you would keep the rest of the stuff

but I buy them for the fun and gamble of trying for a big prize... yes I buy a lotto ticket with the office and personally when I remember. Go big or Go HOME.. lol

is it weird to keep the mystery boxes if they have a cool graphic I got a Marvel one, Dr. Who and Mario Block one? Rest I tossed.
