Fantastic Four #1 came out before I was born but we have a family picture when I was about 3 holding a copy. Not sure where I got it since we had a number of comic collectors in the family or maybe someone bought me a used copy somewhere but it’s painful now to see a key book in a child’s hands.:ohnoez:

Of course it’s just as painful to remember throwing my newly purchased copy of Hulk #181 in 1974 across the room for my cousin to read. Anyone know what it looks like throwing a comic book 12-15 feet in the air across a room?:(

That is not as painful as buying three copy's just to finish my book that I still have :makepoint: I cut them all out myself from all kinds of books. Werewolf by night and so on :whatthe: that was my mission when this came in the mail. My copy of Marvel 1 is on my sig line Repo cover and missing last page. I had it in my junk pile till few years ago (shrug)

Here's a comparison. Real/Omnibus/Masterworks

Masterworks Marvel 1 vs Omnibus2.JPG

Masterworks Marvel 1 vs Omnibus.JPG

I have noticed a upgrade from masterworks to Omnibus, that is why I have replaced then when available, just look at the last panel and no contest which is truer to the original comic book. Clearly the claim that they resrtore the material is proven out, I also like the bigger size and paper that they use. I just picked up Marvel Masters of Suspense Omnibus VOL#1 of two, which contains 1/2 of all Lee/Dikto Stories from 1956-1963 and let me tell you the upgrade in color and printing is stunning...when looking at he masterworks counterparts on some  of the stories. I really appreciate the early 1956, horror, Sc-fi and War and never realized that there was so much material I had never seen, but the restoration of the early Ditko is totally stunning to say the least. I did a few review of the book in the silver age section...Best Buy for me for the year for any reprint book both in content and quality of reproduction.

Some period photos of where the Marvel universe was first formed...

Great photos.  LOVE the art deco wraps near the door and the lettering/numbering.  They don't make 'em like they used to.

FYI, that’s a pretty classic well known photo of Bill but it’s pretty sad to me to see it or photos of others like Wally Wood in their early youth period before their demons took over with the problems of life with either drugs or alcohol which  tore them down and broke them apart early in their lives.

I had just started really collecting Marvel comics when this piece appeared...

Someone posted a long shot of one a few years ago. I’m not sure if it was here on the boards or somewhere else. Hard to see but there was enough to see it was MC #1 and a copy of Tec #31 could also be seen in the picture. Don’t remember what else.

That would be accurate as Tec 31 was released right about 8-8-39.
