Start in the tub with progressively colder baths. Then once used to the coldest bath you can run, add ice! You'd be surprised at what you can get used to, what your mind can make your body accomplish. Of course, whatever it is you try to coax yourself to accomplish, it's always helpful to live in close proximity to an emergency room that never gets real busy.
