Anyway, I thought this would be a wild book to include in the contest.  I mean, how do you grade this flaw?  RMA was right, it's a flaw that is right up there with INCOMPLETE, but not quite as bad as a 0.5.  So, a book that presents like a 9.0 with this flaw, loses 7 full grades.  Wow! Interesting, right?

Bought on eBay for $656 in 2006. Advertised as a "VG/F", and that's about what it was worth at the time.

Showed up....every single page is broken and detached from every other page. The last 16 leaves are still attached...barely...to the staples, but the front 16 are completely detached.

Sigh.

I thought .... well what I thought was wrong anyway lesson learned split and brittle pages even with a cover that may grade 8.0 still brings the book down to Good minus or worse. Its good to know because ive guessed correctly before on severe defects where CGC tends to split the middle. But this was obviously different and forget that whole the insides count as 30% of the grade on this one. It's considered just above complete with a slight bump for a pretty cover.

Man that cover is nice!!! Too bad about the guts...but at least you've had some experience with this...Thanks for sharing!

I saw that and wondered too...but I figured it would have showed up in the grading notes? They would have mentioned it?

What I found was that there are GA books out there with the same problems(brittle pages and multiple pages detached) not looking half as nice as that book getting Blue Universal 5.5s and 6.0s.  Yet there are some also getting 1.0 and 3.0.  Anyways, good too know for any future contests.  Oh, wait,,,this is the last one.  (:
