Edited:  just noticed thread is just for centers, but UKPVs had circles, too.   The early UK Price Variant circles corresponding to these might have been a de facto bargain.  While the cents version circles went up 20% in value (from 10 to 12 cents), the early UKPVs remained 9 pence for a long time.   20% price discrepancy in cover price is nothing to sneeze at in any era.
