FF Annual 2 with Tape on Spine 0

Book is structurally sound so I have no idea why someone put tape along the whole spine

I've seen this many times; likely due to someone thinking that reinforcing the spine with tape would help preserve the book... 

It's a judgement call, but the book looks pretty solid otherwise, and tape is allowable in a VG book. I'd be thinking in the 3.0 - 3.5 range...

I put tape All Over All my covers because it's cheaper then laminating them. I like doing them to all my rare ones.

4.0 and hasnt CGC changed its stance on tape?  Like it doesnt matter any more or something?

iirc, there was a message from Stan Lee in one of the early days of the Marvel revolution where he advised people to do this very thing, for the reinforcement reason given above.

 

there's also the episode of Antiques Roadshow where a guy brings in a suitcase full of the top 60s Marvel keys, all of whose covers were completely covered in shellac.  said he did it for "preservation" or something similar

I saw that Antiques Roadshow, That was crazy. It was at least 3 or 4 years ago, but I will never forget it!

What kind of drop in value did these shellac covered books get?

The roadshow just had a side piece with the appraiser at one of the side tables as they sometimes do, it wasn't a main "featured" interview. I tried to look it up but had no luck. It was a long time ago though, I was just looking at their website and saw one from 2017 that was cool though. 15$-20$ thousand
