Hello everyone, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Chuck Roman. I’ve been on the boards for a few years and have made and met some very great people here!  One of those being Paul Litch. I know a lot of you might know of Paul as he’s been with CGC for 20 years, grading all of our wonderful comics!!!  What you might not know is that Paul has long dealt with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis, a rare form of a kidney disease.  This is a disease that attacks the kidney’s filtering units (glomeruli) causing serious scarring which leads to permanent kidney damage and even failure. 

Paul's condition took a turn for the worse a few months ago and had progressed to the point of dialysis becoming necessary.  Paul had undergone a surgery to implant a catheter device to receive daily dialysis, which hasn’t been the easiest on him.  He’s had up and down days since the surgery while he has patiently searched for a kidney donor. 

Paul received some great news the other day that a donor has been found!!!  The person wishes to remain anonymous is doing a paired donation - which means that the person will give up a kidney for someone else who has a kidney that matches Paul’s  more closely.  Light at the end of the tunnel for this ordeal. 

We have been rising funds on GoFundMe to help Paul and his family with medical expenses as we know medical insurance doesn’t cover everything. With the kidney transplant on the horizon more bills are coming.  Below is the link to donate.  Please help if you can.

My old three of four friends chose to end their life over the dialysis.  One of them got the donor from his own cousin but didn't survive that long while taking the dialysis. One person waited for the donor for six years and decided to stop taking syprine shots and dialysis. He passed away in one week later (he was only 43). Two of them were already over 80 years old and were informed that they needed the dialysis. They chose not and lived for only few days afterward.

Diabetes and Kidney failures are critical life.

There's been a flurry of activity in the fundraiser thread since I posted this. Which is awesome! I'm feeling like it's now run its course though. Unless there are any new donations (hint hint), let's say another 24 hours to wrap up and then a soft close tomorrow night.

I’m a pretty quiet person. People might say I’m not very communicative. It’s true. It’s something I’ve tried to work on but I’m still learning. I tend to play everything close to the chest. This would explain why after so many months this is only the third update I’ve done on, you know, a life or death situation.

I have some very exciting news to share with all of you. 12/11/19 I will be getting a new kidney!!! It is being flown in on the red eye from LAX late 12/10/19. I know many, many people (myself included) who have flown that flight. I wonder how’s many times there has been an organ on the plane with us?

So I’ll try to answer some questions:

No, the airline will not give me the miles used from LAX to TPA for my new kidney. (Apparently it’s not considered “mine” until it’s inside me - I know a lot of parents who would disagree)

I’m not sure how long I will be in the hospital. But based on the food I’d say 6 hours.

Yes, I am very scared/nervous/anxious/giddy.

The best thing about this is that my donor and I got to help someone else and save their life too. It’s not often that one kidney can save two lives. That’s pretty :censored: awesome.

Oh and the kidney I am receiving is from a 28 year old. So January 15th, 2020 I will be turning 29! That’s how it works. I didn’t make up the rules.

Ok, so I should wrap this up. I made some jokes. Tried to keep this light-hearted, but I’m really scared. That’s the truth. But, I got this. No worries.

Thank you for your continued support, emotional, monetary & bad:censored:. Maybe if you guys continue donating I can afford that attitude adjustment my Mom wanted me to get when I was 14.
