East Village Other Marvel Articles

I am not sure if any of the two editions (1966/1969) that featured Marvel Comics stories have ever been certified. They are great articles and the 1969 supposedly nudged Marvel further into creating Black Super Heroes. The 1966 edition mentions the Berkley Pelican article (1965) and has a very cool Dr. Strange pic which is odd because Spidey or Hulk were the ones usually used as general graphics for that era. Also, the 1969 edition (which accused Marvel as only having the Black Panther as a "token") prompted a swift reply from Stan Lee's assistant editor which was published (as they knew it would). These papers are very rare and real pieces of Marvel and counterculture history. Anyone seen them before?

Definitely seen EVOs before. They published lots of comic material including many core underground comic artists, incl Crumb, Shelton, Spain, Trina and more. Larry Hama even worked there for a spell.

They are important to underground comix and countercultural collectors, particularly the Gothic Blimp Works #1-8 (all comic supplement; though hard to store flat unfolded), and the Crumb covers fetch the most (sometimes a few hundred dollars).
