I have a Groo #1 that has a Groo sketch on the first page. Didn't know it at the time.

Also bought an X-Men #137 for $8 at Flying Colors in Concord CA in about 1992...had Chris, John, and Terry on the first page.

Still have it. :cloud9:

I haven't been to that place in decades.  I used to live in Oakland back in the 80's and 90's and would drive all over the Bay Area for comic shops.

You know, I wonder if our paths ever crossed. I virtually LIVED at Clay's and Halley's and The Comic Shop on E 14th, and then Crush...

Spent more hours than I care to know at Comics and Comix on Telegraph.

hm

Spent a ton ton of time at Land of Nevawuz in Danville, and of course, Halley's/KKs in Pleasanton...and Fact, Fiction, and Fantasy until I was booted for shenanigans (hey, it was almost 30 years ago, and I was a teen. ;) )

We may have.  I would usually start off at the Comic Shop when they were across from the thrift shop, then head over to Nightmares and Notions in Oakland, and then to Dr. Comics & Mr. Games in Piedmont.  I would venture out further like going Crush in Castro Valley or to Standup Comics in El Cerritos.  There was a place in SF that was in a touristy area that had some really nice books.  I don't remember the name, or location, other than it was in a really old building.  Fun times for sure.

While rebagging  some books a few years ago, I found a Christmas card and photo of my then five year old son.  I've never been into photos so didn't have many of him and none from that time period.

Moneywise, my best find was discovering a Claw #1 was a triple cover. It's funny because when I bought it in a large collection, it had a $50 price tag but I figured someone had just reused an older bag.

There was a thread a while back where Boardie bought a collection and found some kids porn stash hidden in between the pages.

Am I remembering correctly? too funny

Oh jeez, for a moment I thought you meant child pornography!

Kid '  s porn- Possesive, not an adjective. Whew!

You don’t see many Demon 1s signed by Jack Ruby!

U sure don't, but I doubt people were practicing their Kirby forgeries back in 1980 trying to make a buck.  I did have a couple of knowledgeable people look at scans and they thought it was legit but you can never know for sure.  It was a thrill back then sitting at home and opening up the book for the 1st time.

Wasn't there a Secret Santa gift with something similar to this, and the receiver was Joanna?   I think she offered it as a throwback gift, and Chip claimed it.  That was a quite a while ago.
