Clark may be facing his old nemesis Lex Luthor again next year, but he won’t be played by Jon Cryer in Superman & Lois.

As the Arrowverse undergoes a myriad of changes before the 2021 season, the biggest one in store for DC fans is the official start of Superman & Lois. Ever since Tyler Hoechlin charmed audiences in Supergirl‘s second season, there have been rumblings about him getting his own show. Now that it’s finally underway, casting news and plot details have slipped out little by little to up the anticipation.

Fans will get an extended look at that family dynamic during the series’ premiere, which The CW has recently announced will be an extended 90-minute special. The premiere will be followed by a 30-minute behind-the-scenes event called Superman & Lois: Legacy of Hope, which will give a glimpse into the season to come and discuss the main characters’ cultural significance. As a result of the extended air time for Superman & Lois, The Flash season 7’s premiere date has been pushed from February 23 to March 2.

With many stalwarts of the Arrowverse ending and The Flash likely not long for this world either, Superman & Lois could quickly become a pillar of the franchise alongside Batwoman. Of course, that future depends on how successful the first season is. Superman hasn’t exactly been a major presence in the Arrowverse so far, and the nature of the show seems to be notably different than its predecessors. That means a direct transfer of viewers from other Arrowverse series is far from guaranteed, though Supergirl fans are probably the most likely to make the jump.

At the moment, much of DC’s televised future seems wrapped up in HBO Max. DCEU shows like Peacemaker will tie directly into the current theatrical releases, and the platform now hosts former DC Universe shows like Titans and Doom Patrol. While the streaming shows don’t necessarily have to compete with the Arrowverse, Warner Bros. is putting the brunt of its efforts into streaming for the time being. That leaves The CW’s projects in a questionable state – one that will hopefully be aided by the extended premiere of Superman & Lois on February 23.

does anyone know if its airing in Canada?

I didn't see specifically Canada called out as a TV release target. When it was announced, it just noted CW Channel release.

‘Superman & Lois’ Sets Expanded Series Premiere & Special; ‘The Flash’ Season Debut Pushed

Quote

It will be all Superman & Lois on The CW on Tuesday night, February 23.

The network will be devoting the entire night to the present-day drama series, with an expanded 90-minute series premiere beginning at 8 PM ET/PT followed by a half-hour special, Superman & Lois: Legacy of Hope at 9:30 PM. To accommodate the additional programming, The Flash season premiere will move one week later, now airing at 9 PM Tuesday, March 2. The Flash originally was scheduled to premiere at 8 PM Tuesday, February 23 at 8 PM, followed by the series premiere of Superman & Lois at 9 PM.

Superman & Lois: Legacy of Hope will feature sneak peeks and interviews with cast of the new series, as well as special guests discussing the legacy of the Man of Steel.

Superman & Lois revolves around the world’s most famous Super Hero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent, played by Tyler Hoechlin, and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane, played by Elizabeth Tulloch, as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

Still not seeing anything about specific location for TV release.

The CW is kicking February off with a blizzard (ha!) of renewals, picking up additional seasons of a dozen current series — including breakout hit Walker.

In addition to the aforementioned Jared Padalecki-fronted reboot, the list of shows confirmed to return for the 2021-22 TV season includes:

  • The Flash (Season 8)
  • Riverdale (Season 6)
  • DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (Season 7)
  • All American (Season 4)
  • Charmed (Season 4)
  • Legacies (Season 4)
  • In the Dark (Season 4)
  • Roswell, New Mexico (Season 4)
  • Batwoman (Season 3)
  • Nancy Drew (Season 3)
  • Dynasty (Season 5)

As previously reported, the soon-to-launch new seasons of Supergirl and Black Lightning will be both series last.

Additionally, Superman & Lois  — which is set to bow on Feb. 23 — has received an order for two additional episodes, bringing its Season 1 total to 15. (A Season 2 pickup for S&L is TBD.) Meanwhile, The CW is expanding Walker‘s inaugural season by 5 episodes, for a grand total of 18.

“Though we’re just a few weeks into the new season, we wanted to get a strategic head start on next season with these early renewals, which allows our production teams to start laying out story arcs and hiring staff, and at the same time, continues to provide us with a strong, stable schedule to build on for next season,” said CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz in a statement. “As The CW’s 2020-2021 season kicks into high gear, we are thrilled creatively with the direction of our first new shows out of the gate, Walker and Superman & Lois, that we wanted to order the additional episodes to complete their first seasons, and we are particularly pleased with the huge success of the launch of Walker, which debuted as our most watched series premiere in 5 years.”

Hopefully the additional episodes is because the CW is overjoyed with what they are seeing and not to fill air time. :wishluck:
